Suppose you write an argumentative essay under the title “Should it be a Life Imprisonment for Especially Dangerous Criminals?”

You may start your essay with a question like this: “What do you know about the life imprisonment in our state and in the world?” Then give the concrete facts. Or you may start your essay with a statement about heated debates on this topic in all countries of the world.

2. The First Paragraph of the Body

In the first paragraph of the body you may explain one of the points of view on this issue.

For example, you can argue that keeping especially dangerous criminals in jail during the whole their life is not only uneconomical, but it is a luxury for our state.

Moreover, it is cruel and inhuman to keep people (even if these people are especially dangerous criminals) during the whole their life.

3. The Second Paragraph of the Body

In the second paragraph of the body explain the other point of view (which is diametrically opposed of the first one).

You may write that many criminals are dangerous for our society, so they mustn’t be free. It is even inhuman to other people.

4. The Third Paragraph of the Body

In the third paragraph of the body you may compare these two different opinions. Write which point of view is more convincing.

Give some examples from the world or national literature, history, folk stories or even the experience of your old acquaintances.

5. A Concluding Paragraph

Summarize all the information and arguments.

You may write something like this: “Our society must be reliably protected. We can’t abolish a life imprisonment for especially dangerous criminals. However, we have to be sure in the fact that these criminals are really especially dangerous for our society”.
