This is Drawing Challenge 1, from TeachingPacks.co.uk.

Look at the numbered boxes on your answer sheet. I am going to read some instructions to you and you should draw the correct pictures, shapes and symbols in the correct boxes. You will have ten seconds to complete each instruction, so listen carefully!

• Draw a square in the middle of box 2.

• At the bottom of box 6, draw a small circle.

• Draw a star at the top of box 4.

• Write the number 7 in the middle of your square.

• Draw a smiley face inside box 3.

• Inside box 1, write the word ‘Five’.

What am I describing?

This is a simple speaking and listening game that can be played in pairs, small groups or as a whole class.

To play:1) Print and cut out the cards in this resource pack.2) Choose one child at random and given them one of the

cards. This child has to look at the object / place on the card and describe it, without using the words underneath it.For example, on this card, the child has to describe the Eiffel Tower to others without using the words ‘Eiffel Tower’, ‘France’, ‘Paris’ or ‘iron’.

3) Other children have to listen carefully and use the descriptions / clues to work out what is being described.

You could give points to children who correctly guess the answer... or allow the first person with the correct answer to be the next one to describe a new card.

A blank template is provided at the end of this resource, so that your children can also make their own cards.

The Haunted House

This is the Story Challenge Two from TeachingPacks.co.uk... The Haunted House.

Listen carefully to the following story and try to remember as much as you can:

The old house was at the top of the hill and it had been empty for 30 years. All the children in the neighbourhood said that it was haunted by the ghost of Mary McGee. Mary would often be heard howling inside the creepy old house until the early hours of the morning.

As a dare, Barney and Molly Wright agreed to spend the night in the house. Both children fell asleep until they were woken by a loud crash coming from the kitchen downstairs. Using Barney’s torch, they nervously went to investigate. They discovered an old green jug that had been knocked onto the floor and broken. It was then that the howling noise began!

The children crept down the dark stairs into the cellar where the noises were coming from. The strange sound stopped when they reached the thirteenth step. The room was full of old furniture which was all covered with dusty sheets. Both children peered through the darkness and they could just make out the silhouette of something small shivering in the corner.

Barney and Molly were so scared they could not move. Suddenly, the silhouette bounded over. It was a small black and white dog with a patch of brown over its left eye. The children both laughed. They had finally discovered that Mary McGee’s ghost was actually a little stray dog! The children took the dog home with them and named her Maggie.
