Seasoning helps in increasing wooden strength,survivability,and protection from attacks by insects,fungi etc.

Methods of seasoning

1. Natural seasoning:-a. air seasoning, b. wet seasoning.

2. Artificial seasoning:-a.kiln seasoning, b.chemical seasoning

3. High frequency dielectric seasoning4. Infrared drying

Artificial seasoning

Kiln seasoning:-timber is exposed to hot air to remove moisture ,quicker method also kill fungi and insects ,expensive and need evaporator,factory and space.

Kiln is a chamber having controlled air flows, temperature, and relative humidity.

The ordinary temperature for drying in kiln is between 43.2 -83.2 C.

Chemical seasoning:-it is very expensive done by usin g hygroscopic chemicals,eg:-salt, alkaline chemicals.

While natural methods are cheap but time taking as in the case of air drying atleast 6 months are required for drying the timber.
