ADVANCE WAY OF FISHING

As a fisherman you will be proud to know the extent of advancement of your fishing skills. Now you can tell the colour of your lure just by looking at the colour of the water. You may have even learned map-reading skills so you can look at a topographical map of your lake and are able to determine where the best spots to fish are. Probably the last thing you would consider fishing with a bobber. This is also called a float.

FISHING WITH A BOBBER These are those little plastic of foam balls that floats on water informing you about the status of a fish biting your lure. A bobber will keep your bait suspended just below the water's surface. Sure, you can fish a top water lure or a diving plug, but these just are not the same as live bait. Another method that floats allow you to do is to fish over a particular area down specific levels of the water column. You can set your bait at a particular distance below the bobber, fan cast over and entire are and then set it to lower distance to try again. This will let you ensure that you have fished the entire area thoroughly and will make your fishing with bobbers experience memorable.

MAKING A THREE WAY SWIVEL

If you are drift fishing for big catfish such as blue catfish and channel catfish you may want to use a 7 to 8 ft. medium power bating casting rod, or medium action open face reel rod with either a bait casting reel or an open face reel spooled with 30 to 50 lbs fire line. It is best to use the three way swivel rig. To make a three way swivel catfish fishing rigs the three ways swivel must be tied onto your line first. Then an 8-12 inch dropper leader with a 3 Oz to 5 Oz pyramid sinker must be tied. 50 lbs test fire line leader of 16-28 inches in length with 5-7 hooks is to be tied.

CATFISH FISHING RIGS

You must remember if the current is extremely stronger then you must prefer the large pyramid sinker so that you can hold on to the bottom to be successful. For fishing large reservoirs a pontoon boat works great for fishing for large catfish such as blue catfish and channel catfish. If you plan on fishing large rivers with strong currents a good suggestion would be a 16 to 20 ft. aluminum deep v designed hull boat.
