There is also an Ice Rink, Bowling Alley, Fairground & swimming pool to enjoy. Quarr Abbey There was a monastery on this site from 1132 until its dissolution by Henry VIII in 1536. The new Quarr Abbey is now open to the public and also hosts a Tea Garden, working farm yard, art gallery and book shop. Isle Of Wight Steam Railway Embrace the smell of steam as you step back in time and explore five and a half miles of unspoiled countryside on the island’s only preserved steam railway. The line hosts a variety of Victorian and Edwardian carriages. A great day out. Sandown Seafront Sandown is a coastal town which is renowned for its long golden beaches and safe bathing waters. Here you will find plentiful pubs, cafes and gift shops. Also on the Esplanade is Sandown pier, with its many amusements. Brading This town is home to several hundred years of history. Here you can see the town stocks and whipping post as well as the Lilliput Doll Museum, Brading Station visitor centre & the beautiful RSPB Marshes. Brading Roman Villa The villa’s award winning Visitor Centre and Museum offers a unique insight into Roman life in Britain from beautifully preserved mosaic floors to an extensive collection of Roman archaeology. Isle of Wight Zoo The zoo, which specializes in big cats and lemurs, provides a fun, educational and wholesome day out for the family. For the smaller children there is an indoor animal handling zone where they can get more ‘hands on’. Arreton Old Village The Old Village at Arreton gives a unique glimpse into the island’s past. There are locally produced crafts and food, and lots to keep the family busy too - including brass rubbing and displays of the area’s agricultural heritage. Robin Hill Robin Hill Adventure Park is a great place to go for a family day out. Here you can wander around the eighty acres of woodland walks; enjoy the exciting rides which include a 4D motion simulator, a swinging galleon and the Cows Express train ride. Dinosaur Isle Visit Britain’s first purpose built dinosaur attraction and step back through 120 million years of fossilized time. The museum houses over 1000 fossils and is home to the only known specimen in the world of a 3ft creature named ‘yaverlandia’. Garlic Farm Here you can buy a wide range of goods and learn about the culinary and medicinal uses of garlic. You can also sample some of the products available and there is a heritage centre, shop and café. Scan to find out more Scan me to read our reviews daily timetable from 23rd May until 31st August

GettingtoRydeissoeasy.Hovertravel’s hovercraft runs mostly every 30 minutes from Southsea, and it’s quick too - just 10 minutes to reach Ryde. If you’re coming from Portsmouth city centre, or the rail station, there is a frequent ‘Hoverbus’ shuttle direct to the hovercraft port in Southsea.

Alternatively, Wightlink’s catamaran leaves fromPortsmouth Harbour station and runs up to every 30 minutes to Ryde Pier Head. Both routes are just a short walk to the bus station.

There are frequent trains to Portsmouth Harbour from London, Brighton and the south coast, Gatwick Airport, South Wales and Cardiff, Bristol and Bath, Salisbury and Southampton.

The Downs breezer leaves every 30 minutes between 0925 and 1655 every day until the end of August. Hop on and off anywhere along the route using your 24-hour ticket, which also gives you unlimited travel on all our buses right across the island.

You can also get to and from the island on Wightlink’s ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne (a 15 minute walk from our Downs Breezer Fishbourne Lane stop), from Southampton to Cowes by Red Funnel’s Red Jet, or from Lymington to Yarmouth on Wightlink’s car ferry.

Use our frequent buses via Newport to get to Ryde for a great family day out exploring even more of the island.
