We purchase gifts; we decorate our homes, inside and out; we prepare foods that we eat only during the holidays; we write and send Christmas cards; we attend holiday concerts; we prepare either to welcome family and friends into our homes or arrange for visits to their homes. We really can’t escape the details that make up the season. Perhaps this Advent is a time to attend to all those details with a different spin. As we prepare to celebrate the feast of Christmas, why not be deliberate about acknowledging the presence of the Lord as we go about these tasks? The Lord often comes to us in wonderfully surprising ways. Let us be prepared.

BE PREPARED Be prepared. It’s that simple. As this Advent season opens before us, the Lord Jesus summons us to stand ready for his coming. At this time of year much of our attention is focused on being prepared for the details that accompany the holiday season.

FINANCIAL REPORT

“Active” membership at a Parish enables a person to be eligible to sponsor a child for Baptism, to receive financial aid for Catholic Education, to be married in the Parish and to prepare one’s children for the Sacraments. To be an “active” member is to participate in the life of prayer and stewardship in the Parish. All adults over the age of 21, living with their parents or on their own, must register in the Parish to be considered members. The use of the offering envelopes may also help you to qualify for tax incentives. Participating in one or more of the ministries offered by the Parish is proof of the sharing of time and talent for the greater good of our Church Community. So please pick-up a free registration form at the Parish Office, or print one from our website at www.stbarnabaslb.org. Stop by the Parish Office and we will be happy to help you! Welcome to St. Barnabas!!!

FRANCIS XAVIER, (1506-1552). Francis was born in Spain on Apr. 7, he was sent to the University of Paris 1525, met Ignatius Loyola and became one of the seven who in 1534, at Montmartre founded the Society of Jesus. He was ordained there in 1537, went to Rome in 1538, and in 1540, when the pope formally recognized the Society, was ordered, to the Far East as the first Jesuit missionary. After a year's voyage, he arrived in Goa, India in 1542. He preached to the natives and attempted to reform his fellow Europeans, living among the natives and adopting their customs on his travels. During the next decade he converted tens of thousands to Christianity. In 1552 he set out for China, landed on the island of Sancian within sight of his goal, but died before he reached the mainland. He was canonized in 1622 and proclaimed patron of all foreign missions by Pope Pius X.

Knights of Columbus Corner SAVE THE DATE

The Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe – December 12th

Our Lady of Guadalupe (Spanish: Nues-tra Señora de Guadalupe) is the title of the Blessed Virgin Mary who appeared to Juan Diego in December 1531. The Virgin arranged flowers in Juan's tilma, or cloak, and when Juan Diego opened his cloak before Archbishop Zumárraga on Decem-ber 12th, on the fabric was a marvelous portrait of herself. This miraculous image has proved to be ageless, and is kept in the

shrine built in her honor, the Basilica of Our Lady of Gua-dalupe in Mexico City and is the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world, and the world's third most-visited sacred site. The Knights of Columbus are organizing a special Feast Day Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Monday, December 12, 2016. Stay tuned for more details!

========================================= THANK YOU The Knights of Columbus Council #3449 and the Filipino-American Association would like to THANK Betty Lowther for her generous $1,000 donation to both ministries, which will be used to help support their ministry’s projects in the parish.

St. Barnabas School News SCHOOL STUDENT NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY The school, mindful of its mission to be a witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students regardless of race, color or national and/or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, disability, medical condition, sex or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs, although certain athletic leagues and other programs may limit participation and some archdiocesan schools operate as single sex schools. While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them.
