All: And also with you.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD

Interlude Billy Meredith

Prayer for Illumination Lord, may your Word feed us; may your Spirit enlighten our spirits as we listen for your

voice speaking through the Scriptures this day. May we grow in our faith and in your service, for to that we are called by your Son, the living Word. Amen.

Matthew 14:13-21 Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, ‘This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.’ Jesus said to them, ‘They need not go away; you give them something to eat.’ They replied, ‘We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish.’ And he said, ‘Bring them here to me.’ Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

Affirmation of Faith - Apostle’s Creed

One: Let us confess the faith of our Baptism.

All: I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Invitation to the Lord's Table

Responsive Communion Psalm (from Psalm 116)

One: I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my supplications. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish.

All: Then I called on the name of the Lord: “O Lord, I pray, save my life! Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful. The Lord protects the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me. Return, O my soul, to your rest, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

One: What shall I return to the Lord for all his bounty to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord, I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people. I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice and call on the name of the Lord.

All: I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people, in the courts of the house of the Lord, in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!

Prayer of Thanksgiving and The Lord’s Prayer … “forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors”

Prayer after Communion God, we thank you for the meal that Christ shared with his disciples, and that we have shared in Jesus’ name. In this meal, remind us of the many ways you provide for us that which we deeply need. Let us not leave the Table without acknowledging your work in us through Jesus Christ in whose name we pray. Amen.

Hymn “Feed Us, Lord” verse 1-3 #501

Feed us, Lord. Feed us, Lord. In the broken bread, be revealed again. Come and feed our hearts, O Lord.

Quench us, Lord. Quench us, Lord. On this thirsty ground, may your love flow down. Come and quench our hearts, O Lord.

Fill us, Lord. Fill us, Lord, with the bread and wine of the risen Christ. Come and fill our hearts, O Lord.

THOUGHTS ON GIVING: “Jesus said to them, ‘There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves’.” (Matthew 14:16) This is what Jesus said right before he fed the five thousand. How often do we really place our trust in Jesus when the situation looks grim? With Jesus, no gift is too small or insignificant when offered with love. But, we have to do our part. We should trust that Jesus will provide all that we need. We need to believe that Jesus has a better plan in store for us.

STEWARDSHIP PRAYER: That Jesus is our first option and not our last resort when faced with difficult circumstances.

Volunteers are desperately needed for receiving and pricing and/or working in the store when it is open. Other needs are taking surplus to the dump or a donation receiving location once a week. We continue to need handle bags of all sizes as well.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we discover new ways to be the church. We are called by God to serve in creative ways during these ever-changing times!
