Specific QuestionHow can we help a paraplegic

student get up and down our school's stairs when an

elevator breaks down?

Data for ProblemFor our data for the problem, we decided to create a

staircase made out of Lego’s. With that staircase, we made a wheelchair that has a “paraplegic” in it. We created a data table to show the outcome

of each trial, to see if the wheelchair fell:

Current SolutionsThe first current solution is an elevator. The problem

with an elevator is because it tends to break down, or is in maintenance Another solution is a ramp.

The problem with a ramp is that its not all throughout the building. Another solution is a stair lift. The problem with a stair lift is that it costs too much money too install, and it can crowd stairs.

SolutionFor our solution, we are

going to enhance the stairs. We are planning to, with a push of a button, make the

stairs turn into a ramp. Don’t worry about the wheelchair falling out, there is a strap

that pulls the wheelchair in.

Data for SolutionFor the data for the solution, we made another

model of our solution, and we did trials. We made a model ramp made out of Lego’s. Here

is a data table to show the outcome of the trials:

ExpertFor our expert, we chose Jose’s dad, Mr. Larena, to help devise a blueprint for our solution. Mr. Larena has a bachelor’s degree in engineering, so he can give

us valuable information on how to make a legitimate blueprint.

ShareIn order to share our solution, we decided to make a website called http://stairtoramp.weebly.com.

This website has our information on our solution, so people around

the world are aware of this situation. We are also making fliers

about this situation.

Plan for the FutureFor our plan for the future, we can try to let

companies endorse our product. Some of the companies may include Sportaid.com and exmed.net. We could also sell this idea to

Sports Authority, or Wal-Mart. We could also make infomercials that can also expand our

product everywhere in the world.

DebateQ: Won’t your solution cost a lot of money to

install?A: Installing this invention won’t actually cost

that much money. The required materials are only gears, movable stairs, and a button to signal the gears to move.

Q: What if a gear is stuck on the stairs, or if something breaks?

A: The movable stairs can be taken off easily, to fix any stuck gears easily! Or, you can simply call an employee of the school to fix the stairs in no time!
