Firsts in India‐ Women In a male‐dominated society, it is not easy for a woman to put a step forward in a new direction for the first time. In a society like this, women have to fight within their home and outside to achieve a goal. The situations are same for Indian women. From ages, women in India struggle a lot to gain their desired honor and despite that had reached the top in almost every fields. Here are some great women who achieved a goal for the first time in India and set a mark on their way. Salute to these great souls from Team Sareez. First Women Graduates: Kadambini Ganguly and Chandramukhi Basu, 1883
Image Source: http://goo.gl/snLStK At that time, it was considered as a sin for Indian women to read or write and at the same time, these two Bengali girls qualified the Graduation examination from the University of Calcutta, India. They passed the bachelor's degree in arts in the year 1882, however, their formal degree was handed in the convocation of the University in the year 1883.
First Woman Honours Graduate: Kamini Roy, 1886

First Woman Lawyer: Cornelia Sorabjee, 1892

After returning India she worked as a social reformer and was awarded Kaiser‐i‐Hind Gold medal for her service in the year 1909.

First Indian Woman to Won Nobel Prize: Mother Teresa, 1979

First Woman Prime Minister of India: Indira Gandhi, 1966
