Firsts in India‐ Women  In a male‐dominated society, it is not easy for a woman to put a step forward in a new direction for the first time. In a society like this, women have to fight within their home and outside to achieve a goal. The situations are same for Indian women. From ages, women in India struggle a lot to gain their desired honor and despite that had reached the top in almost every fields. Here are some great women who achieved a goal for the first time in India and set a mark on their way. Salute to these great souls from Team Sareez.      First Women Graduates: Kadambini Ganguly and Chandramukhi Basu, 1883  

 Image Source: http://goo.gl/snLStK  At that time, it was considered as a sin for Indian women to read or write and at the same time, these two Bengali girls qualified the Graduation examination from the University of Calcutta, India. They passed the bachelor's degree in arts in the year 1882, however, their formal degree was handed in the convocation of the University in the year 1883.        

    First Woman Honours Graduate: Kamini Roy, 1886  

 Image Source: https://goo.gl/3AWzsP   Kamini Roy was the first Indian woman honours graduate. She passed the graduation examination from Bethune College of the University of Calcutta in the year 1886 with honours in Sanskrit.      

    First Woman Lawyer: Cornelia Sorabjee, 1892    

 Image Source: http://goo.gl/8wQNkz   Cornelia Sorabjee was the first woman in the world to read law at Oxford University and she is also the first Indian to study at any British University. After returning India she worked as a social reformer and was awarded Kaiser‐i‐Hind Gold medal for her service in the year 1909.        

    First Woman Physician: Kadambini Ganguly, 1886

First Woman Doctorate of Science: Asima Chatterjee, 1944

 First Female Judge of Supreme Court: Justice M. Fathima Beevi, 1989

First Indian Woman to Won Nobel Prize: Mother Teresa, 1979       

  Image Source: http://goo.gl/TPX9mL    By birth She was Albanian, but she was more Indian than any of us. She founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata and served people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy, tuberculosis, orphans. In the year 1979, Mother Teresa won Nobel Peace Prize for her social work.      

First Woman Prime Minister of India: Indira Gandhi, 1966       

 Image Source: http://goo.gl/TVAWMV   The exceptionally good‐looking daughter of India’s first Prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi served as India’s first female prime minister from 1966 to 1977 and again from 1980 until her assassination in the year 1984 and that makes her the second longest‐serving Prime minister of India after her father.   

First Woman Chief Minister of India: Sucheta Kriplani
