Encouraging Phonics*Last week we worked very hard on the
sound /ch/. The students had to
brainstorm a list of words containing the
/ch/ sound. Then they made paper
chains of all the /ch/ words they could
read. Have your child list the words
with /ch/ in them, or point out any /ch/
words they may use while speaking. The
more they see the sound being used the
more comfortable it will become.* This week we are introducing the
bossy r, and the rlikes to look behind
him to see what vowel he can boss
around. This week he is bossing around
the letter a. So when the children see
/ar/ together the bossy /r/ makes a say
r. Have children look through booksor magazines to find the /ar/ words. You
can also have your child list /ar/ rhyming
words. With small little reminders the
students can see that the letter soundsthey are learning are a part of their
everyday lives.

*Adopt-a-manatee*
Thank you to all the parents that helped with our bake
sale by sending items in or volunteering to sell items
before and after school. We are well on our way to
adopting a manatee and taking a field trip to
Homosassa Springs State Park to visit the manatee.
would like to have one more week of selling items. I
would like to sell carnations with heart notes on themthe week before Valentines day (Feb. 7-11
th). We
are in need of carnations as well as volunteers to sell
before and after school. This cannot be done withou
your participation. Remember, all money made wil
go to adopt a manatee, and the remainder will offset
the cost of the fieldtrip. Thank you all for your
participation!!
