Knight News October 12, 2018 First Grade Food Drive The York Academy first grade classes conducted their annual Food Drive during the week of October 1. The culminating activity was a school-wide effort to have students bring non-perishable food for the drive and those that participated were able to dress in fall colors. The Food Drive was a huge success with 100 items that will be donated to the York County Food Bank. In addition, $233 in cash donations were received and will go to Heifer International. As part of the International Baccalaureate Programme, each grade conducts a community service project during the year. The Food Drive is the community service project for grade one. In addition to academic performance, parents may check attendance, demographic information, assignments (MYP students) and disciplinary actions. If you have not yet applied for or received your access to the Parent Portal, click here. Go to “Create a Web Portal Account” and follow the instructions provided. Sabores from York Academy As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, our Upper School students will be hosting “Sabores from York Academy” on Thursday, October 18 from 4 – 6:00 p.m. It will be held in the Upper School Cafeteria, Center for Creative Expression and Gymnasium. Join us for Latin food, music and activities (making maracas, playing the congas, Zumba and more). York Academy is proud to collaborate with Latinos Unidos of York and the York County Hispanic Coalition for this event. Upper School students wishing to attend must have a permission form on file by October 17. Please plan to bring a Latin dish/item to share. First Grade Food Drive

The Food Drive was a huge success with 100 items that will be donated to the York County Food Bank. In addition, $233 in cash donations were received and will go to Heifer International. Spirit Day

The next Spirit Day will be Friday, October 26. On this day, students are to dress as their favorite storybook or movie character. Those that wish to participate must contribute $1.00 to the PTO’s fundraising effort.

Early Dismissal for Students

Please be reminded that Friday, October 26 will be an Early Dismissal Day for students. All Lower School students will begin dismissing at 12:15 p.m. All Upper School students will begin dismissing at 12:30 p.m. Please make the necessary arrangements to have an adult pick up children at the Lower School at the designated time.

Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire

All Upper School students participated in the Renaissance Faire on Wednesday, October 3. This field trip experience was a culminating activity for students of English Literature being presented in the Language and Literature courses. While attending the Faire our students participated in a number of activities and we are pleased to announce that the theater groups received a first place award for their efforts on stage.

Our TAG students visited the Renaissance Faire on Wednesday, October 10 and participated in various activities. Our students captured two third place finishes in Theater and Shield Design. Congratulations to all of our students that participated and a special thanks to all of the parents that served as chaperones for these events.

Upper School News

Students in the Upper School will be participating in a Fall Festival during the week of October 29 through November 2. One of the culminating activities for the week is a Fall Festival Dance to be held on Thursday, November 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Students wishing to attend must have a permission form on file before October 26.

This dance is for York Academy students in grades eight and nine only. No other students will be permitted to attend. Additional information regarding the dress attire for this event will be sent home with students.
