WHAT DID WE DO THIS WEEK? READING We have added sight words to our word wall including: do, for, I, is, me, my, said, you, them, much, take, make, as, that . This week we began blending short ‘e’ words such as hen and wet. We have also been working on reading comprehension strategies of: Fantasy (make-believe) vs. Realism (what could really happen) during whole-class, and small group reading lessons. For this strategy we discussed which events in the stories could happen in real life and what could not. Please have your child read the take home books for practice. MATH We have continued with chapter three this week including vocabulary such as: greater than (>), less than (<), equal to (=), subtract, subtraction sentence, equals (=), plus (+), difference , and ten- frame . Strategies we used this week to solve subtraction problems included ‘writing a subtraction sentence,’ ‘drawing a picture,’ and ‘using counters.’ Sometimes we still found it difficult to switch from addition word problems to subtraction story problems. We need to remember to listen to the whole story before we decide how to solve the problem. When your child does their homework ask them which strategy will help them solve the problems. WRITING This week in writing we discussed how to pre-write a beginning, middle, and end of a story by drawing pictures. We used post-it notes to draw a beginning picture, a middle picture, and ending picture of an event. We then thought of and wrote a sentence for each stage in our story. Next we reread our sentences and thought of a way we could make them better by adding a word, or correcting the punctuation. HANDWRITING We have continued learning the proper formation when writing some of our lowercase letters, and numbers. Those that we focused on this week included c, a, d, g and number 5 and 6. SCIENCE This week we began a new unite on Habitats. To begin we learned about Forest Habitats and the animals that live in the forest. We each created a tree using colored paper, and chose a forest animal to add to our habitats display in the hallway outside our classroom. WHAT DID WE DO THIS WEEK?

READING We have added sight words to our word wall including: do, for, I , is, me, my, said, you, them, much, take, make, as, that.

MATH

We have continued with chapter three this week including vocabulary such as: greater than (>), less than (<), equal to (=), subtract, subtraction sentence, equals (=), plus (+), dif ference, and ten-frame.

WRITING

This week in writing we discussed how to pre-write a beginning, middle, and end of a story by drawing pictures. We used post-it notes to draw a beginning picture, a middle picture, and ending picture of an event. We then thought of and wrote a sentence for each stage in our story. Next we reread our sentences and thought of a way we could make them better by adding a word, or correcting the punctuation.

HANDWRITING

We have continued learning the proper formation when writing some of our lowercase letters, and numbers. Those that we focused on this week included c, a, d, g and number 5 and 6.

SCIENCE

This week we began a new unite on Habitats. To begin we learned about Forest Habitats and the animals that live in the forest. We each created a tree using colored paper, and chose a forest animal to add to our habitats display in the hallway outside our classroom.
