FIRST FRUITS WE GIVE OUR FIRST FRUITS BECAUSE HE GAVE US HIS ONLY SON July 2012 First Fruits – July 2012 “Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves. Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification. For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, ‘THE REPROACHES OF THOSE WHO REPROACHED YOU FELL ON ME’ ” (Rom. 15: 1 - 3). We are already in July. The time is flying by, as always seems to be the case. We have some unique opportunities coming up to put the above Scriptures into practice. Now the above Scripture reference doesn’t mean to be a people pleaser, one who can never say no – no, the above is not a people pleaser, but one who works for his neighbor’s good, his edification. It is not talking about being a doormat because you are so worried about what other people will think or because you don’t want to offend someone. Sometimes Christians are called on to practice tough love. It is talking about working for others good, not due to some deficiency in you, but of acting sacrificially for another’s benefit – of allowing the love of Christ to flow out of you to others to improve their world. As you see, it says, “we who are strong.” It is not talking about doing things to manipulate others or to assist them out of other wrong motives. It is talking about sacrificing your rights to help someone else. A sacrificial opportunity will present itself soon in Aug. The Texas District Convention is coming up on Fri., Aug. 3 rd and Sat., Aug. 4 th in Grapevine. Grapevine some may say! That sure is far. Why are they holding it in such a far off location? Part of the reason is to encourage the Texas District churches that are up in Northern Texas. They have come down to our activities and now it is our turn to return the favor. We are hoping that many will attend the Texas District Convention and encourage our brothers and sisters up north. The Texas District is also trying to encourage more Lutheran churches to join LCMC up in the DFW area. By holding our convention in their “neck-of-the-woods,” we give churches in that area opportunity to see what makes LCMC great. Is it convenient for us? Probably not -- but sacrificial love is rarely convenient. Was it convenient for Christ to come and take our sins on Himself? Was it convenient for Him to be despised, spat upon and bruised for our transgressions? We are to follow our Master in the way of the Cross and be sacrificial lovers. So won’t you show some love to your brothers and sisters up north and register for the Texas District Convention? It is not even that great a sacrifice. You get some excellent teaching, training and fellowship, along with a visit to the DFW area. You might even have some fun conversations and fellowship on the way up and back. Maybe you could even think of planning to car pool up with some fellow “Firster.” I know Women of the Word (WOW) had a great time of fellowship when they car pooled together for the women’s retreat.

July 2012 Volume 15 No. 7

First Fruits – July 2012

“Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves.

3rd and Sat., Aug. 4th in Grapevine.

The Texas District Convention is easy to register for as well. Just go to Living Word’s website (the church that is hosting), www.lwlc.com and scroll down to the picture of grapes and register below it. For those that need help registering online, just let us know and we can assist you. Or if you would like to send in a snail mail form we can assist you with that. The theme of the Convention is “Connected to the Vine; being the Branches.” Hope you can be a “branch” and share some of the “sap of Jesus” with your fellow Lutherans up in Grapevine.

Some other unique opportunities to serve others present themselves to us in July. Our Visitor’s Potluck that Charlotte and Jewel-Dean are helping to organize on the 22nd of July, the Vietnam Memorial that is coming to EC on July 10th and the possibility of showing a movie on the Black Genocide in 21st Century America called Maafa 21. Concerning the Maafa 21 event, we are not sure of the dating, but probably July 9th or 11th (Monday or Wed.). Some of the black pastors in town are tentatively planning a revival on July 6 – 8th at one of the parks near us. If this occurs, we are planning on showing the trailer for Maafa 21 at this event and then showing the movie on the 9th or 11th at our church. This is an opportunity for us to reach out to the black community in EC and help inform them and their pastors about the terrible genocide of black children that is going on through abortion, as well as informing ourselves. I look forward to serving with you at these events and more this summer. May God bless you as you continue to grow in the knowledge of Him!

In His Agape, Pastor Taylor +

Our First School is in the middle of its summer curriculum. Thanks to our new movie screen, even the young children

are able to enjoy “going to the movies” on the days that the older kids head to

Showplace3. Swim day is also a very popular with all the kids in this heat.

Friday, June 29th, the First Schoolers had their annual Independence Parade around

the square in El Campo. A huge thanks goes out to Carol and Diane for stepping

up to the plate to keep First School running smoothly. Also, thanks to all the

teachers who continue to care for our First kids. FLC is fortunate to have such devoted people caring for our kids.
