First Communion Banners First Holy Communion banners have become a beautiful tradition at St. Peter Parish. You will not regret spending time with your child in making this special banner! Each child is asked to bring his/her banner to First Holy Communion to hang at the end of the family’s pew. Banners can be made ahead of time and hung on your front door as a sign and symbol of the upcoming Sacrament of First Holy Communion. For more inspiration or ideas visit catholicicing.com or Pinterest! Guidelines: The banner should be no more than 17 inches in width and between 17 and 24 inches long. The banner can be made from any fabric that you wish. You may use burlap, felt, cloth, etc. The banner should have symbols related to First Holy Communion on them. They may have grapes, wheat, your child’s name, picture or anything else that you feel is appropriate. Hot glue works well for gluing letters on the banner. Try very hard to let this be a project that your child takes the lead on. Small, round, wooden dowels (no more than 17 inches long) may be used. You may tie ribbon on the ends to use to fasten the banner to the pew. Ribbon between 24-36 inches long works best. Please do not bring tacks to fasten your banners to the pews.
