Connecticut River Eagle FestivalEssex, Chester, Deep River & East Haddam,February 12 & 13, 2011

Come on up to the mouth of the CT River in the towns of Essex, Chester, Deep River, East Haddam, Old Saybrook, and Old Lyme, CT., where the River Meets the Long Island Sound, and observe Eagles like you have never seen before.

Every year, nearly 100 American Bald Eagles and Golden Eagles converge along the 10 -15 mile stretch of the Connecticut River where it empties into the Long Island Sound. Dozens of Eagle Spotters will be positioned at stations along the CT River, with very powerful spotting scopes. Visit any of these locations, to spot and observe one or more wild Eagles. Who knows, you might even see a floating piece of ice in the river, with several eagles on it, looking for fish around the edges. Of course, the Eagles are always here every day of the year, but the resident Eagles are less than 15. It is during the coldest 3 winter months, that as many as 100 additional Eagles migrate here from all over New England and Canada. This particular weekend is really well organized to invite over 5,000 people to the area to really enjoy one of nature's rarest seen birds of prey, and National Symbol.

A naturalist's paradise, Prince Edward Island is one of the top cycling destinations in North America! Circling the island are 40 glorious beaches, ranging from bright red clay to pure white sand. Bird sanctuaries are numerous, seal colonies lie along the shore, and occasional whales and porpoises are sighted. Inland, the rural nature of the island's old homesteads is enhanced by stretches of untouched woodland. Even while pedaling through its pastoral farmlands, you never feel far away from the ocean and its refreshing breezes. Prince Edward Island is everything you have heard it is. Join us for our fun and friendly tour around the island this summer!

The Prince Edward Island Bicycle Tour is an enjoyable and inexpensive cycling vacation. This supported group camping trip is a friendly event, with a great deal of socializing. Along the way, we will learn about Prince Edward Island's important role in Canada's history, discover its incredible variety, and experience what makes the island distinct. This is a tour which will be both spectacular and memorable.

The PEI tour alternates each year between the eastern and western sides of the island. This year our adventure in Canada's smallest province will take in PEI's central and eastern sections. We will follow scenic back roads, enabling us to experience the rural flavour of the island. No matter where we are, we will never be far from its shores, which we will visit often. The shallow depths allow us to swim in the warmest waters north of Carolina. We will also include options to explore parts of the province's developing trail system, which follow the path of old train lines. The Prince Edward Island Bicycle Tour with gently rolling terrain and varied scenery is a great tour for families and casual cyclists. There are natural attractions for everyone as well as shortcuts available most days.

This will be an easy tour, as far as Atlantic Canada Cycling standards go. We have planned this trip with casual to average cyclists in mind. New or casual cyclists will find this tour feasible. For accomplished bicycle tourists, we have many extra peninsulas and harbours we can send you exploring. We can certainly have you busy while enjoying the event with other riders.

We begin at Charlottetown, the primary city of Prince Edward Island, and the Birthplace of Canada. We take in the attractive loop around Amherst Point, before our first night together along the shore of the Northumberland Strait.

Our next leg is across the province. After a day of rolling farmlands, we will take time to explore the Gulf of St. Lawrence side of the island. Here we will enjoy the beachfront drive of Prince Edward Island National Park. At the park we will enjoy its beaches, walking trails, and other natural attractions.

We work our way eastward, turning at the farthest point of PEI. The beaches here are spectacular. We weave in and out of the peninsulas with scenic coastlines and few cars. Our last evening together is on the beach. We end our trip with a return ride back to Charlottetown.

Jesus teaches about the Way to Heaven

Matthew 7:13-14

“Enter by the narrow gate, for the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction and those who enter it are many.

For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life and those who find it are few.”

Hi Keith,

Hope you and all the other singles are doing well up in snowy CT ( nothing in RI...yet : )

I want to share some info I received about a pro-family movie that will be on TV this Saturday night, followed by a live web cast ~ thought it sounded interesting.

Have a good weekend.

Sincerely,

Dona Lombardi [email protected]

If you're anything like me, you sometimes have a hard time finding quality entertainment that you can watch with your family. That's why I am so excited to tell you about a new movie airing on Fox this Saturday night (8 PM, 7 Central), as part of Walmart and P&G's Family Movie Night series.

Change of Plans tells the story of a young couple, Sally and Jason, whose lives are turned upside down when Sally's best friend from college is killed in a tragic accident. Sally and Jason are forced to make some life-altering decisions when they discover that she has been named legal guardian to her friend's four children, three of whom were adopted from third world countries. Change of Plans stars Brooke White (American Idol) and Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show) and according to the official website, portrays how "fulfilling life can be when you look beyond your own plans and invest in the lives of others." What a great discussion starter for you to engage your kids around issues that are truly important.

To view a trailer for Change of Plans and to read more about the movie, visit the movie's official website by clicking here.

Immediately following the movie, you can tune in to a live webcast sponsored by Chick-fil-A's WinShape Foundation that features FamilyLife's own Paul Pennington, Executive Director of Hope for Orphans, as he and other leaders answer questions about adoption. To learn more about the webcast, click here.

One other thing, you may also be interested in going to www.loveishere.com which will also be featured as part of Family Movie Night. This site, sponsored by our friends at the WinShape Foundation, is designed to give help and hope to marriages and populated with a lot of great articles and resources to help marriages and families. FamilyLife has stockpiled a number of our articles and resources at loveishere.com as a part of our partnership with Chick-fil-A's WinShape Foundation.

Join me and take some time with your family this Saturday night to watch this important movie. It's pro-family, pro-children, and pro-adoption - all things that are close to the heart of God. While you're at it, invite your friends and family to do the same, and make sure you tune in to the webcast afterwards.

One Home at a Time,

Dennis Rainey

The Christian Singles Hikers are announcing our schedule for 2011, which is our fifteenth year of enjoying outdoor events together.  Thanks to everybody who agreed to lead an event!  Come join us to share the nice weather, the beauty of the outdoors, and some great fellowship.

Contact Mott at [email protected] or 781-320-0663 to RSVP or find out more about the hike or to find out more about the hiking group.

Please mark these down on your calendar and come with us for some of our events:

January 22 - New Ipswich, NH. If there is enough snow, we will go cross country skiing and maybe snowshoeing at Windblown in southern NH; if not, we will go hike in the Worcester area.

February 5 - Northfield, MA. If there is enough snow, we will go cross country skiing and maybe snowshoeing at Northfield Mountain near the Connecticut River; if not, we will go hike in the Hartford area.

March * - West Thompson Lake, CT.  This trail is a great place to have an early spring hike.  It is close to Worcester, Hartford, and Providence, so meet us here to get in your first hike of the new year.

April * - East Bay Bike Path, RI.  This was so popular in past years, we are doing again!  This bike trip goes from East Providence to Bristol along a paved, abandoned railroad line.  This scenic route takes you to a park with a beach and passes along the coves, marshes, and shores of Narragansett Bay.  For those who want to rent a bike, there is a place nearby to do so.

May 21 - The Appalachian Trail, MA.  This hike will be one of our most rigorous ones of the year and promises to have breathtaking views that will make it well worth the effort.

June * - "Taste of Amherst", MA. BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! Enjoy an easy hike with great views of the Quabbin Reservoir and then sample food from Amherst area restaurants on the town's village green; no matter what kind of meal you are looking for, you will be able to find it here (or you can have a little of everything). Our group had its largest turnout ever at this event; set aside this date now to find out why!

July 23 - Newport, RI: This easy hike allows you to do as much or as little of the Cliff Walk as you want or go see some of the famous Newport Mansions.  We will also have great ocean views at Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge.  We will share a dinner together afterwards.

August 20 - Blue Hills, MA. This large green oasis near Boston makes one forget how close the city is.  There a wide variety of plant and animal life here, so come enjoy the beauty that God created.

September * - Tully Lake, MA.  Those who have gone previously remember the great views we had from the top.  Furthermore, Doane's Falls are beautiful.  You will want your fist fall hike to be at this scenic location.

October * - Alander Mountain, MA and NY.  Come see the fall colors in the Berkshires.  This hike will be one of our most rigorous of the year, but the breathtaking views and seeing Bash-Bish Falls will make it well worth the effort.

November 5 - Bigelow Hollow State Park, CT  This old favorite is near to both Worcester and Hartford, but feels very remote once you are on the trail.

To find out more about our group, contact Mott at [email protected] or 781-320-0663.  For those on our email list, we will send the details about an event approximately one week before it is scheduled to take place.  We look forward to seeing you at these events!

The Wrecking Returns To The Community Coffeehouse"This emotive rock effort combines meaningful lyrics with a relevant musical sound.  The result is a diverse batch of songs that have broad appeal...A New Abolition will challenge listeners and provide them with encouraging, hope-filled messages." -- CBA Resources Magazine

"The mission of this group is completely transparent through their music: to share the love of Jesus Christ and bring hope to the lost. A New Abolition only continues to help solidify this sole purpose and the band's future success...their music possesses a distinctive sound all their own... it sure gives this pop/rock quartet the jumpstart needed for acclamation and exposure.... 4 Stars -- JesusFreakHideout.com

Dear Friends:

It's hard to believe that we are entering our 9th year as a group!  For several of us, 2011 will mark the 10th anniversary of our events (ie, JesusFest and PraiseFest).  It's also amazing that many of us served on the Mission CT with Luis Palau team in 2001, a full decade ago.  As the Book of James says, our lives truly are a vapor that appear for a little time, and then vanish.

Anyway, I have two reasons for this email:

* I'm helping behind the scenes with initial planning for some musical events in the City of Hartford this summer.  In one instance, we're looking for a LOCAL SOUTHERN GOSPEL group with 2-5 members, who can lead a public concert of "old time religion" songs.  If you have any suggestions, please email me.

* I've been in touch with Lana at The Bushnell, and they currently have Saturday morning, February 26 open for our annual winter meeting of the CT Alliance for Christian Arts.  I'm envisioning the meeting going from 9 am to 12:30 pm in the Goldfarb classroom where we've had meetings before.  IT IS NOT A DONE DEAL.  I'm throwing out an email fleece to guage the level of interest in meeting, and people's availability (weather permitting) on that day.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO TO A MEETING ON FEBRUARY 26, please email me!

Appreciate your feedback on both fronts.  Thanks!

Joyfully yours,

Drew
