You might well ask, How can that be possible? The reason that church can be a dangerous place is because church is often a busy place, a very busy place. As I look at our church calendar, I see entries in October for Sunday morning worship, Sunday evening small group meetings, Sunday afternoon worship at retirement centers, Wednesday evening children s and youth ministry meetings, meetings for deacons, meetings for staff members, meetings for Brown Bag ministry workers, a big Fall Festival childrens event, the promotion of the Operation Christmas Child project, meetings for the WMU, Black & Gold Day, and a multi-church senior adult fellowship. All of that is just Octoberand what part of it would you cut out if you could? I remember hearing Coach Nick Saban (forgive me, Auburn fans!) answer a reporters question about why he didnt play more of his younger players by saying, Which one of our star players would you like for me to sit down? His point was that everything he was trying to accomplish with the team was important and that he needed his best players. In the same way, everything we do at church is important even though it is somewhat dangerous. Come to church and, yes, you may be asked to serve on a committee or help with a program. But aren t those efforts important? Dont they all contribute to the work of making the Gospel of Jesus known? So having said all of that, heres my message to you. It is a simple, thank you.To every person who attends, gives, prays, works, and serves, thank you for all that you do for First Baptist Church and for the Gospel of Jesus. My Sunday School class has been working through the Book of Proverbs the last few weeks, and we have found some real nuggets. May I share a couple with you that are, I think, appropriate? Proverbs 11:24-25…”One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor. A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water.(HCSB) This verse reminds us that our efforts are known to God and rewarded. We all need that kind of encouragement. This verse is like God saying from heaven, Good job, keep at it!Proverbs 12:27…”A lazy man does not roast his prey, but the precious possession of a man is diligence.(NASB) This unusual verse reminds us that good work is always worth it. First Bapti s t Church’s “Where CHRIST Is the Center”

This is a difficult confession for most preachers to make, but here goes…church can be dangerous. You might well ask, “How can that be possible?” The reason that church can be a dangerous place is because church is often a busy place, a very busy place.

As I look at our church calendar, I see entries in October for Sunday morning worship, Sunday evening small group meetings, Sunday afternoon worship at retirement centers, Wednesday evening children’s and youth ministry meetings, meetings for deacons, meetings for staff members, meetings for Brown Bag ministry workers, a big Fall Festival children’s event, the promotion of the Operation Christmas Child project, meetings for the WMU, Black & Gold Day, and a multi-church senior adult fellowship.

All of that is just October…and what part of it would you cut out if you could? I remember hearing Coach Nick Saban (forgive me, Auburn fans!) answer a reporter’s question about why he didn’t play more of his younger players by saying, “Which one of our star players would you like for me to sit down?” His point was that everything he was trying to accomplish with the team was important and that he needed his best players.

In the same way, everything we do at church is important…even though it is somewhat dangerous. Come to church and, yes, you may be asked to serve on a committee or help with a program. But aren’t those efforts important? Don’t they all contribute to the work of making the Gospel of Jesus known?

So having said all of that, here’s my message to you. It is a simple, “thank you.” To every person who attends, gives, prays, works, and serves, thank you for all that you do for First Baptist Church and for the Gospel of Jesus. My Sunday School class has been working through the Book of Proverbs the last few weeks, and we have found some real nuggets. May I share a couple with you that are, I think, appropriate?

Proverbs 11:24-25…”One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor. A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water.” (HCSB) This verse reminds us that our efforts are known to God and rewarded. We all need that kind of encouragement. This verse is like God saying from heaven, “Good job, keep at it!”

Proverbs 12:27…”A lazy man does not roast his prey, but the precious possession of a man is diligence.” (NASB) This unusual verse reminds us that good work is always worth it. So again, thank you for every effort. God bless you!
