Alghero is a beautiful city on the Sardinia NW coast, visited by thousands of tourists during the summer seasons, due to
its well preserved historical centre, attractive coasts and magnificent landscape.
It is an ancient feudal territory of the Genoese, colonised
towards the middle of the 14th century by the Spanish Catalans, who called it “Barceloneta”, “little Barcelona”.
Today, after more than six centuries, the city remains proud
of the architecture, folklore and language of its Catalan heritage. In effect the walled “old town” of Alghero has
remained virtually unchanged since the time of Catalan rule and its historical links with Catalan Spain are very much in evidence. In its narrow streets the signs are bi-lingual, in
Catalan and Italian, and even the local dialect and cuisine can trace their origins back to the town’s Catalan
forefathers.
Alghero's atmospheric old centre is its real attraction, and it can easily be explored on foot.
We look forward to seeing you in Sardinia.

Objectives of the Symposium
The general objective of the symposium is to give a
renewed vision of knowledge on husbandry and milk production, technology, chemistry, physics, microbiology,
nutrition etc, without losing sight of the significance of markets and appropriate policies, as they have evolved
since 2004, to scientists and other professionals involved in the sheep and goats dairy sectors (milk producers, dairy
industry, trade associations, academia, research institutes, government).
The Symposium will be a platform for exchange of
knowledge and information among international experts in the field.
The first symposium organized by IDF on sheep and goats
milk and their products was held in Athens in 1985. After a very long delay the second symposium was held inHersonissos, Crete (Greece) in 1995. The third symposium
was held in Nicosia (Cyprus) in 2000 and the fourth inZaragoza (Spain) in 2004.
