President’s Message
Happy New Year! As I write this message the temperature
outside is 5 degrees I can’t help but think of the summer rallies
where we enjoyed the camaraderie and warm weather. It is winter
in the northeast and we need to embrace the changes.
Speaking of changes - rallies and installation will be somewhat
different. The June 2018 rally will be a rendezvous rally, it is a
gathering at a campground providing an opportunity to explore local
events. Margie and I attended several rendezvous camping
weekends and enjoyed the flexibility. For July 2018, a unit rally is
not scheduled as several unit members will be attending
international out on the west coast. During August 2018 I’m working
closely with the New York State of Mind caravan to host an
airstream vintage rally with them. Installation of new officers will be
in September conducted during a luncheon at a restaurant. There
was a need for me to think outside the box - as host and co-host
were not available to sponsor rallies / installation this year.
Some unit members are sharing their Airstream experiences. Two
write-ups are included in this newsletter - full time RVing and living
at an Airstream park in Florida during the winter months.
Margie and I are looking forward to the 2018 rallies and enjoying
time with all of you. Ed

Four months and counting …
On October 29th, Chuck and I completed four months on the road in our
27 ft. Airstream as full timers. In 2016, we traveled for about three
months. We came home and thought “What do we need all this for?”.
Looking around at all our “stuff”, we realized that we (as we aged)
experiences and relationships took on greater significance. Our ten
grandchildren are now between the ages of twenty and thirty. They are
around the country in college or beginning their lives in the workplace and
one has married and presented us with our first great-grandchild. At this
time in our family's life, it is easier for us to visit them than for them to
come to us. In our Airstream, we can do that and still have our own space.
Traveling in our Airstream has opened a whole new world to us. We
began this journey with no expectations. We want to live each day
experiencing whatever the world has to offer. Thus far, we realize that it
has much to offer. In our first four months, we spent our first two weeks in
our Erie county park in Sardinia, New York. Here, many family members

and friends visited with us - helping them to understand our decision to sell
everything and hit the road. From there, it was on to Jackson Center to get
solar panels installed and then to Escanaba for the WBCCI International
Rally, meeting wonderful people on the way. Took some time in Michigan
and Ohio to explore in state parks. Headed back to NY, to see family and
friends and then on to Owego for the FLU rally. Connecticut, here we
come, to meet our new great grandson! What a blessing! Spent time at
October Mountain SF in Lee, MA. What a beautiful area! Tanglewood is
just outside the park in Lenox. We spent an entire day there enjoying the
history, music and nature. Next was a visit with our son and his family in
MA. We boon docked all the time we were in MA. Our solar panels
worked out well. We were very pleased. Back to WNY for the FLU installation
Rally. Then to Sugar Creek, OH to work the Swiss Festival Rally. From there, we
traveled with Roy DeWitte and Helen to Jonesborough, TN for the Storytelling
Rally. This was a Hoot! We laughed for three days straight and told a few stories
ourselves. Chuck and I left Jonesborough on October 9th and parked at TCPC, an
Airstream Park in Crossville, TN and WE ARE STILL HERE! This is
something that we did not expect. We had been given a
certificate for two free nights here when in Sugar
Creek, OH. Thought we would stop by here and visit with

the couple that were parked next to us in Escanaba, MI.
They were from GA and had Bevo, the mastiff that won best of show at the
International Rally pet show. It was wonderful seeing them again and we fell in
love with the Cumberland Plateau area. To make a long story short, we bought a
membership here and will make this a centrally located stop while we travel
through the southeast. This a real gem if you like a laid back natural setting (which
we do). Leaving for GA tomorrow to Cloudland Canyon SP and explore the city of
Chattanooga, TN. We will go to SC on November 2nd to join the SC coastal rally in
Lee SP-so long for now! Will write again next month. In the meantime, have a
blessed Thanksgiving. We do have so much to be thankful for in this beautiful
country that is home to us all.
Safe travels, Judy Tobin

Message from your Treasurer – January 4, 2018
I hope everyone has had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. As we start the New Year, I am sad to report that we have lost 5 members from 2016 and 14 regular, or affiliate members from 2017 who have either sold their Airstreams, moved out of the area, or have decided not to renew their membership in our unit.
On the positive note we gained 6 new WBCCI members this past year who choose our unit. According to the most recent Audit from WBCCI, along with my records we currently have 50 paid up members for 2018.
I closed out the year with a checkbook balance of $7314.95, which is slightly above our 2016 ending balance. The ability to send the newsletter and Dues Request Notices & receipts electronically has resulted in an overall savings in postage costs, however, the $5.00 fee for mailing hard copies of the newsletter is not covering the cost of printing, paper & Ink. In the future, we may need to discuss an increase for mailing the newsletter, or subsidizing these costs from the treasury.
