Number panels of the bank notes are printed in fluorescent ink .The banknotes have optical fibres.Both can be seen when the banknotes are seen underultra-violet lamp.

A special, unique and distinct font is used.The space between the numbers are evenly distributed.

The numbers are thick and bold in red colourIn Rs.1000 note the numbers in the right top corner

printed in bluish black colour and the left bottom in red.

Security Thread

Rs.100, Rs.500 and Rs.1000 banknotescontain windowed security thread .This thread is partially exposed andpartially embedded. When held againstlight, this thread can be seen as onecontinuous line. This thread contains thewords 'Bharat' in Hindi and 'RBI' appearingalternately. The security thread of theRs.1000 banknote contains the inscription'Bharat' in Hindi, '1000' and 'RBI'.

Security Thread (modified)

i. The machine-readable security thread in Rs.10, Rs.20 and Rs.50denomination banknotes is windowed on front side and fullyembedded on reverse side. The thread fluoresces in yellow on bothsides under ultraviolet light. The thread appears as a continuous line

from behind when held up against light.ii. Rs.100, Rs.500 and Rs.1000 denomination banknotes have machine-

readable windowed security thread with colour shift fromgreen to blue when viewed from different angles. Itfluoresces in yellow on the reverse and the text will fluoresce on the

obverse under ultraviolet light.

On the obverse side of the banknote, avertical band on the right side of theMahatma Gandhi’s portrait contains a

latent image showing the denominationalvalue 20/50/100/500/1000. The latent image is visible only when thebanknote is held horizontally at eye level.

Micro-lettering

This feature appears between thevertical band and the Mahatma Gandhiportrait. It contains the word ‘RBI' and ‘100’denominational value in micro letters.This feature can be seen better under amagnifying glass.

Intaglio Printing

The portrait of MahatmaGandhi, the Reserve Bankseal , Guarantee andPromise clause , AshokaPillar Emblem on the left,RBI Governor's signature onthe obverse of thebanknotes are printed in intaglio, i.e., in raised

prints, which can be felt bysoft touch.

See-through is a flower like design that rendersadditional security to our notes.

It is in the left side & above the identificationmark.

The floral design is printed both on the front(hollow) and back(filled up) in a single pass.

DENOMINATION NUMERAL IN SEE-THROUGH REGISTER(Modified feature in the new series)

Half the numeral of each denomination (10,20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000) is printed on theobverse (front) and half on the reverse . Theaccurate back to back registration makes thenumeral appear as one when viewed against

light.

Identification Mark

An identification mark has been introducedin the note for the benefit of visuallyimpaired people.

This mark is in intaglio printing and it is indifferent geometrical shapes for variousdenominations .

Watermark is prepared at thestage of manufacturing thepaper.The new banknotecontains the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi with a lightand shade effect and multi-directional anti-scan lines. Whenthe note is held against lightGandhiji’s image is clear in allrespects.

WATERMARK

Mahatma Gandhi’s image isprepared and printed to imitatethe original but the image is notclear as it appears in the genuinenote. It looks like a hand drawn

cartoon picture.One can easily find thedifference when the note is heldagainst light. It is an importantfeature to confirm the forgery.

Silver colour paint is pasted onthe forged notes to imitate thesecurity thread. When the note isheld against light the thread cannot be seen as a continuous line.In the latest forged notes a

material imitating the SecurityThread is pasted and a black lineis drawn to appear as if there iscontinuity . One can differentiatethis feature by a close look at the

note.

In the new series notesColour of the thread shallshift from green to bluewhen viewed fromdifferent angles. It willfluoresce in yellow on thereverse and the text willfluoresce on the obverseunder UV light.

A green material ispasted on the forged(XEROX) note to imitatethe security thread.

The colour shift fromgreen to blue is notavailable in the forgednotes.

The latent image showing thedenominational value of20/50/100/500/1000 on the vertical band is visible andclear when the banknote isheld horizontally at eye level.

LATENT IMAGE

The latent image is not availablein most of the forged notes. Insome of the Fake notes anattempt is made to imitate thisfeature.Though it seems to beavailable, it is not clear like agenuine note.

The colour of the numeral500 and 1000 printed at thecentre appears GREEN whenthe bank note is held flat butwould change to BLUEwhen the bank note is held atan angle.

The colour shift of the numeral500 and 1000 from GREEN toBLUE is not available inFORGED NOTES.

This feature is also important toconfirm the Forgery.

TIPS FOR DETECTION OF FORGED NOTES

Please count the notes always lookingat the front side of the notes.

While handling / counting bank notesalways make it a practice to look at theNUMBER PANEL.

The practice of counting the notes bylooking at the Number Panel , font size,thickness and shape of the numbers will automatically register in yourmemory

It is a simple practice like observingany change in the activities of our dearones whom we meet every day . i.e ourchildren, dearest friends, etc.

immediately at the sight of the note.

The numbers on the Forged Notes(printed) are mostly small in size.
