“Financial Peace!” Yes! Finances and Peace can actually be used in the same sentence. During our Stewardship campaign, beginning Sunday, October 20, we will be learning proven ideas of how to come to peace with your money. The ideas are so simple and practical that even a Methodist can do them. I am also offering a FREE Financial Peace University class to the person who guesses the closest amount of money contained in my jar of pocket change (over $100 value). This will be a stewardship campaign unlike anything you have previously experienced. See you there. Pastor Ken Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you to Rev. “Financial Peace!”

Yes!

See you there.

to Rev. Suzanne Hill for her many years of service leading our Lay Communion Ministry (communion to homebound) and for her work with Zack Camardese in a smooth transition of Leadership. We appreciate Zack’s willingness to fulfil this ministry role. God bless you both.

CORRESPONDENCE Dear friends at Church Hill, This morning’s mail brought this beautiful card sending me messages of love. I immediately looked at each name and made a mental picture of the sender. It makes me feel a vital part of the worshiping community called Church Hill and my relationship with each one of you who took the time to sign the cards. There are not enough words that can express my gratitude for the messages and signatures. Many thanks for these thoughtful expressions of love.

“Backpack Project” Replaced by School Pantry

Our church has provided the “hands and feet” and the storage space to pack bags of food for the elementary children of Liberty Schools for the past five years. Last September, Liberty opened a food pantry in the Liberty School building that is designed to serve students in all grades. Second Harvest Food Bank has suggested to most school systems with in-school food pantries that this be the source for food for students, replacing the backpack project. So, for the 2019-2020 school year, we will not be packing bags of food for the children. Sharon Wathen assists the school by ordering the food for the pantry at the school and making sure that food is delivered as it is needed. At the beginning, the school pantry served about 30 children. By May of 2019, that number was up to almost 150 children. It is expected that the traffic in the school pantry will increase throughout the new school year. Funds have been provided by the Girard Liberty Rotary and some individual donors for the school pantry.

MANY THANKS to the dozens of volunteers

from Church Hill who have helped with the

Backpack Project over the past five years. The

food made a huge impact on the children. Let’s

pray that the school pantry will expand that impact.

Liberty Community Pantry News

So Many Blessings!

As we approach the end of September, we will have served three years of Liberty Community Pantry events. Amazing! During the past month we were blessed with an additional $1,600 grant from the Trumbull County Emergency Food grants at Second Harvest Food Bank. We received an SUV filled with food items from a food drive held at Heritage Manor in partnership with Southern Care Hospice. We thank Cristal Vincent and Sarah Benson for delivering that food to us. We also received fresh tomatoes and peppers from the Girard Community Garden. Judge Jeff Adler suggested those vegetables be donated to our pantry. They are grown by persons working in community service activities from his court in the Girard Municipal Court. On September 25, the King’s Kids Club children will make a craft item that will be part of our giveaway treats for the October food pantry. The pantry families love these handmade items! Once again we are partnering with Liberty Local Schools to welcome student volunteers for our pantry distributions. In September we had 13 young men from the High School and 8th Grade. Some were members of the golf team, along with their coach. Others were members of the 8th Grade leadership group. Superintendent Joe Nohra and Principal Mike Palmer also stopped in to support the students and our pantry. The volunteers from Church Hill UMC and our friends in the Jewish Community are loyal and hard-working. Thank you so much for all that is done to make the pantry awesome!

GREAT DAY OF SERVICE

Saturday, September 21, is our Great Day of Service.

We look forward to going out into the community to serve and spread the love of Christ. Our plans include volunteering at Second Harvest Food Bank, Betty’s Angels, Liberty Arms Assisted Living, the Warren Trumbull County Public Library located in Liberty, Liberty Township trash collection, and visits to CHUM shut-ins. If you can join us, please come on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. to the Dining Hall for breakfast. We’ll join together for a brief time of worship and go forth to serve. If you cannot join us, please pray for the volunteers and all of these we serve during the day.

During October and November we will learn about what it’s like to have Financial Peace in our personal lives. Dave Ramsey has a great course on Financial Peace and has many best-seller books on learning to “live like no one else” when we have our financial “house” in order. Pastor Ken will use some of the Financial Peace teachings to offer messages on Sunday mornings during October and November. Combining those ideas with God’s Word about our relationship with money will give us meaningful and practical ways to better manage our personal finances. By mid-November, you will have the opportunity to decide if you might benefit from participating in the Financial Peace University course. Church Hill will plan to host this 9-week small group in the early weeks of December and complete the course after the Christmas holidays in January. Pastor Ken has some fun things planned for this Fall Stewardship emphasis! Be sure to join us and learn something that just might change how you, and your family, looks at money.
