The mission of Operation HOPE is silver rights empowerment, making free enterprise work for everyone. We accomplish this through our work on the ground as the nonprofit private banker for the working poor, the underserved and struggling middle class. We achieve our mission by being the best-in-class provider of financial literacy empowerment for youth, financial capability for communities, and ultimately, financial dignity for all.
Our Mission
Project 5117 is HOPE’s four-pronged approach to combating economic inequality. The programs under Project 5117 improve financial literacy, increase the ratio of business role models and business internships, reach America’s un-and underbanked citizens, strengthen small businesses and create new entrepreneurs. The end results are economically stabilized communities.
Project 5117 Through the Youth Empowerment Division, students learn the importance of financial dignity. HOPE programs help youth understand the basics of banking, credit and investments, develop career path thinking and public speaking skills, start and run their own business, through increased critical thinking and problem solving skills. These programs represent a highly accessible and effective means for youth to gain the knowledge for making sound financial decisions and ultimately achieve economic independence. Financial dignity is achieved through financial education that both inspires youth and provides the technical information needed to be financially literate and prepared for a career in a global economy.
Through the Adult Empowerment Division, HOPE partners with financial institutions, city governments, and community based organizations to deliver financial literacy education to low-income adults. We offer adult financial education workshops, credit counseling, small business technical assistance and entrepreneurial training, access to capital for homebuyers and business owners, foreclosure prevention counseling and business-oriented computer and Internet services. These programs are designed to transform underserved communities into emerging market communities of economic opportunity.

Under the HOPE Inside delivery model a partner funds a HOPE employee who will be a certified financial management counselor located at the partner’s selected location. The HOPE counselor will conduct community outreach, create strategic alliances, delivers HOPE financial educational workshops and one-on-one counseling at the partner’s location and/or offsite.
Operation HOPE is partnering with financial institutions, city governments, and communitybased organizations to deliver financial literacy education. HOPE believes that by providing financial literacy, we empower individuals and give them financial dignity, which leads to financial inclusion.
5 1 1 75 million youth empowered with a new level of financial literacy through unique financial dignity education programs, that have successfully been taught in 1,850 schools and1,326 community based organizations across the country. The program ensures basic consumer protection education for a generation, while making smart cool, so they stay in school.
Banking on Our Future elevates the dignity, hope, and economic self-sufficiency of people in low-wealth and underserved communities through financial literacy. Since its inception, the Banking on Our Future Program has reached over 880,000 students.
1 million of these empowered youth will have an opportunity to become future entrepreneurs critical thinkers, problem solvers, and local job creators through HOPE Business In A Box Academies, supported by a 100-year partnership with the Gallup Organization. This effort powerfully reconnects education with aspiration in the lives of our youth. By the year 2020 there will be 2,000 HOPE Business In A Box Academies across the United States, in both urban and rural communities.
In addition, Operation HOPE seeks to inspire, recruit and organize 500 leading CEOs who will become founding partner-members of HOPE B- Business Compact (HOPE B-BC). Founding partner-members agree to make available 6-week internships to young people from low-wealth urban, rural and underserved communities who were able to raise their GPA to 2.7 (B-) in high school, inspiring and encouraging them to ‘want’ to graduate.
700 Credit Score Communities will be attained through the expansion of HOPE Inside and “HOPE Inside Certified Plus” locations. These communities will have access to credit counseling, education on credit and money management, and debt management, offered in an individual and group setting.
HOPE believes that a community empowered with their own sense of financial dignity asks more good questions, demands better products and services, is more aspirational, and positions themselves as an upwardly mobile emerging market for the future. An empowered community is a community filled with economic opportunity.
