Financial AstrologyVs.Business Astrology:The Differences and Similarities - Stocks,Commodities and Real EstateBy Georgia Anna StathisComparing SystemsThere are different ways we use astrology to help us inbusiness, stocks and financial trading, as well ascommodities and it is important to differentiate them. Eachcan be explained within the context of many cycles. Thestudy of astrological cycles is very ancient. And if weexamine astrology from a cyclical perspective, then itbecomes easier to understand when we apply it to eitherfinancial or business delineation, both of which require very differentapproaches using similar techniques. In the past, however, financial and business astrology have been placedunder one general heading, when, in fact, they are really twoseparate studies, which require different rules ofdisposition. For example, Financial Astrology was often the headingunder which vocational planning, corporate and real estatedelineation were found. But Financial Astrology actuallyfocuses on the trends of the different stock markets and theindexes such as the New York Stock Exchange and theNASDAQ. This is very different than working with anindividual company, which has its own horoscope and its ownparticular transits affecting it and only it. The study of indexes, marketsand commodities have a more comfortable home in FinancialAstrology. Business Astrology is separate and falls under adifferent umbrella. Therefore, when we need to analyze a business question

Page 2: Financial and Business Astrology

using astrological cycles, we must first define what it is weare looking for when consulting an astrologer for help witheither a business or financial question. Is the astrologermore astute in index or market cycles, or is his or herstrength in the area that can best advise you on how to planfor future moves or trends in your company? Or does thequestion ask when to purchase or lease a piece of property in areal estate transaction. There is a marked difference.A. FINANCIAL ASTROLOGYIn the world of financial astrology, we look at the biggercycles and their overall effects on market trends. Thebigger picture is associated with a more cosmic picture, aglobal psychology that wanes and waxes with the cycles ofthe Moon, which represents the general mood of the population. Its movements also reflect the interaction of theplanets that are currently in related cycles with each other. When certain distances occur between the planets, if theyare stressful, we see stressful index cycles. The geometricinteractions between various planets along with the repetitive eclipsecycles (and whether or not they are also being stressed bytransiting planets) have a strong influence. This influence isfelt in even less complicated transactions, so for now, let usexamine them further.Stocks, Indexes, Mutual Funds and CommoditiesIn financial astrology, we work with different indexesand exchanges. For example, the New York Stock Exchangehas an incorporation date just as does the Japanese StockMarket and other indexes. The Dow Jones IndustrialAverage has its date, too. We can lay each chart out andwatch how the different transits, eclipse cycles, progressionshit the natal positions. A financial astrologer has his or herown systems, cycles, and methods they use for their particular brand of delineation. Their specific system gives them insight into what might be happening in an index during an overall trend. Every

Page 3: Financial and Business Astrology

financial astrologer uses their own criteria.

One may work more frequently with a First Tradechart to check price and trade volume - as compared to abusiness Astrologer who is looking for different types of thingssuch as what is going on with the employees or If there Is an Impending merger. Mutual Funds each have an incorporation date, but mayalso consist of several companies who all have differentincorporation charts. Again, the financial astrologer views the overall movement of trade volume and price cycles whereas the business astrologerusually tackles a smaller population of charts.

Commodities are a bit different in that each covers onlyone particular commodity such as orange juice, soybeans, corn, porkbellies, or gold to name a few. This is different than acompilation of several charts that form the larger stockexchange or index, and the smaller compilation of chartsthat we see in a mutual fund. One commodity is examined ata time. More is discussed about commodities further on.

CommoditiesOne of the most important cycles for analyzingcommodities and real estate are the eclipses associated withthe Moon and its 18.6-year nodal cycle. The lunar nodes arecomprised of the intersecting points where the Moon’s orbitintersects with the Earth’s orbit as it travels around the Sun.These nodal orbits travel with the eclipses and return to thesame positions every 18.6 years to 19 years. They capture masspsychology. More times than not when the Lunar Nodestravel through the signs of Cancer and Capricorn, two of thesigns of security in the natural zodiac, issues arise aroundeconomic downturns and changes. Two of these cycles mostrecently occurred between 1990 and 1992 as well as from

Page 4: Financial and Business Astrology

1999 to 2001. And, of course, the 'meltdown' of 2008 is a prime example of this downturn, which, at this writing is still recovering.

Real EstateThe nodal cycles also indicate trends in real estate and interest rate financing. Certain types of stocks or indexes are more “in style” at different times in history. There are better opportunities at various nodal returns with regard to real estate matters. In real estate, for example, there are many factors in terms of the range of values—interest rates, inventory of availablehousing, population, economic cycles and employment to name a few. This 18.6-year cycle is similar to the Brennan Cycle used in realestate (also termed the McWhirter Cycle and named after Louise McWhirter). For example, when the north node travelsthrough the sign of Capricorn, we usually see a very lowcycle of activity. This is a recurring cycle last occurring in 1990 to 1991 and happening again between 2009 and 2011. However, as it proceeds to its half cycle, which is 9.3 to 9.5 years and the North Node travels through the sign of Cancer, ruled by the Moon (homes, properties, restaurants, families), prices escalate and the demand increases thus hiking the prices and lowering the availability. This Is a very good example of the age-old supply and demand theory. Housing Is a commodity and depending on the economy, its value ebbs and flows like any other commodity.

Typically, when the North Node travels through Capricorn, there is a downturn. The cause of that downturn may vary. In the early 1990s, many companies were downsizing and there were losses of jobs, similar to the late 1970s when unemployment was at a high peak. From 2007, the economy has also had a major downturn, but the circumstances this time were, among other things, the lack of regulation with the mortgage companies, and the subprime mortgage debacle that falsely escalated the value of housing, creating a desire for housing, which gave certain

Page 5: Financial and Business Astrology

banks the idea that if they granted loans to everyone, even those unqualified, that money was to be made for all. After all, interest rates had remained very low for too long a time. That along with 'stated' income' applications prompted a crisis of foreclosures on a massive scale - a cycle we have not seen as devastating as the Great Depression of the 1930s. As the south node travels through Cancer, the sign of housing, the south node 'releases' opportunity. Either people lose their homes, or, because of financial circumstances actually lose their homes. However, for those who have saved their monies, who have scrutinized their spending for financial opportunities, this is the time to buy the inventory, since there is so much of it, which lowers the present value. In August 2009 the cycle got further support for either losses or opportunities as not only the North Node entered Capricorn again, but is being accompanied by transiting Pluto In Capricorn (247 year cycle that just began In 2008) as well as the square between transiting Saturn In early Libra (cardinal sign) and Uranus in early Aries In late 2010.

needs to be made here is that when the lunar node travelsthrough the sign of Capricorn, interest rates, which are whatmortgage payments are based upon, fall in order toprecipitate activity. Values of property and the desire forhousing consequently rises. The point being made here is that a good financial orbusiness astrologer identifies the many different trendsoccurring at any point on the timeline, and puts all of thosetrends together in an organized fashion to suggest trendmovements similar to the trend movements of real estate. Inother words, prices are driven down by trends. Do we thenpanic and sell? Or, do we purchase more, because thefinancial astrologer also has some tools that identifypotential long-term future trends? They make suggestionsbased on their opinion and experience. This knowledge isimportant: should one redistribute resources into otherpotential investment opportunities? Or “buy straw hats inthe winter” as Bernard Baruch, the American financier, once exclaimed.

Page 6: Financial and Business Astrology

So, as we look at financial cycles that occur over longperiods of time, it is important that we stay cognizant of thebigger astrological picture. It is important to rememberthis, particularly when one is investing in the market itself. If you seek out the assistance of a financial astrologer, it isimportant to reveal whether you are holding your stocks orindexes for a longer time, or if you are a trader, or workwith options, and whether you are in and out of the marketin the course of a day, a month, a quarter, or a year. Atrader requires different astrological analysis than a long-terminvestor.For the financial astrologer to do a good job for you, heor she must know how you work. Are you a long-terminvestor or a day trader? The astrologer should also be ableto examine your birth chart, because some people are moresuited to long-term investment whereas others are not. AnAsset Manager is a very different type of occupation than aDay Trader. These differences need to be identified by yourastrologer and it is then important to see if, in fact, yourfinancial astrologer can also analyze your individual chartto determine whether or not this method may be better foryou in terms of investment or not. Some financialastrologers can do this and some cannot. One astrologermay be the best at determining long-term cycles, but not thatstrong in terms of individual chart assessment. Astrology, like other disciplines, has many specialists because thereare so many different approaches to delineation. If your financialastrologer works with other associates as part of a businessteam, this may be your best option. There is currently amovement in the astrological world to work in teams onvarious projects. This groundbreaking practice may reallychange the way businesses and individuals view and workwith professional astrologers. In contrast to the financial astrologer who works withlong-term trends, there are also financial astrologers whowork more with the trading end of the markets. This

Page 7: Financial and Business Astrology

includes Commodities. These cyclic examinations includethe above larger trends as part of their analysis, but theyalso focus myopically on what planetary cycles areoccurring on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. The rulesare a bit different here. The commodities astrologer looksat the faster moving planets such as the Moon, whichchanges signs every couple of days and moves from a NewMoon to a Full Moon to a New Moon again. They look at thetransits of Mercury, which rules trading. Is Mercury in adirect or retrograde motion? Is it fast or slow? This has abearing on trades during certain months of the year. Arethese or the other planets such as Mars, which rules action,at a stressful distance with Saturn, which is slow and bringsdelays? There are hundreds of spinning possibilities, requiring a very detailed, minute focus, and the processingand coordinating of large amounts of data.In a way, this branch of day trading requires certaintype of data management personality as well as flexibility.Neither one is better than the other, but they are different. We are working with large amounts of data in eitherdiscipline, but the financial astrologer is more aware of thelarger conjoining cycles. He or she also takes intoconsideration the smaller cycles, but they become part of thebigger picture. The day trader or options traders who are inand out of the markets in a shorter length of time, view thelarger trend cycles, but must be abreast of all of the interrelatedplanetary shifts that may change in just the course ofone or two days. Both are astrological cycles and relatedbut different. One paints the background landscape and theother fills in the foreground details. When we look at commodities, we look at the law ofsupply and demand. Different planets hold rulership overspecific commodities. For example, the planet Venus, the“sweet” goddess in myth and story, rules sugar. Though Iam not a commodity specialist, it is logical that when theplanet Venus is under stress by aspects from other planets,or in her fall, as it is in the sign of Virgo, or her movement is

Page 8: Financial and Business Astrology

retrograde (appears to be going backwards in the sky, butisn’t really), there will be a re-adjustment, a possibledownturn, or even a plateau when her movements areconstrained based on planets transiting and debilitating her.In contrast to this, the planet Neptune, which rules oiland petroleum, is much slower moving. Neptune rules thesign of Pisces. Since Neptune does not travel through thesky very quickly as it orbits (it takes Neptune 165 years tocomplete a full cycle!), we have to look at how other relatedplanets, such as Jupiter, are faring. If, for example, Jupiteris in at a positive distance (a trine, or 120 degrees) toNeptune, then there may be more oil, or more access to it.However, if transiting Jupiter is in an adverse sign totransiting Neptune, there may be an inflation of the price, oran over-supply, and prices adjust accordingly. With commodities, we can also incorporate the LunarNodal cycle mentioned earlier to demonstrate supply anddemand theory. For example, from 1999 to 2000, thetransiting Lunar North Node was traveling through the signof Cancer. There is a difference between the Lunar NORTHNode and the Lunar SOUTH Node. Where the Lunar NORTHNode is traveling (i.e., what sign it is moving through), iswhere there might be more of a demand, and the prices goup. In the United States, housing prices rose markedly onthis last pass of the North Node through the sign of Cancer, which is ruled by the Moon, which is a container thatchanges shape, and which rules containers of people, such ashomes and restaurants and food. The public pulse is usuallymoving more towards food and security needs during theseperiods, and the commodity, in this case housing, goes upbecause of demand or lack of inventory!Conversely, when the Lunar SOUTH Node travelsthrough a sign, we see a “letting go” of whatever that signrules. Soon we will be seeing the South Node begin to travelthrough the sign of Sagittarius, the sign of education. Thisimplies that we are ready for a revolution in education, having to let go of tried and true educational methods toincorporate different learning and teaching methods.

Page 9: Financial and Business Astrology

Using this example of a trend, Sagittarius rules thestone turquoise, and this might imply that we are eitherrunning out of turquoise, and, as a commodity in the gemtrades, its value goes up. The other way this could work isthat it is simply “out of fashion” for right now and there isno demand, which could suggest the price is lower. Ofcourse, it is very important to take into consideration theother planetary cycles and how they are geometricallylighting up this Nodal Trend Axis. For example, if transiting Saturn, which representshard work, responsibility, economy and non-wastefulmethods, is stressing this axis at 0º-degree; 90º-degree, or180º-degree angles, then it suggests that this is a time for adownturn, or what appears to be a recession. It is a realitycheck of trends and the various economies flatten out andreorganize themselves. This is particularly important inthat this exact occurrence is happening between 2001 and2003. April 20, 2001, Saturn entered the sign of Gemini andthe Nodal axis entered Gemini and Sagittarius in late 2001,starting this transition.B. BUSINESS ASTROLOGYBusiness astrology is the other parallel discipline ofeconomic astrology. One of its uses is to analyze the timingin individual incorporation charts. Corporation charts areerected for the latest incorporations of large companies suchas Microsoft or Walt Disney, and for sole proprietorships.Companies not incorporated can be analyzed if we know themoment they opened their doors or took in their firstdollars.Business astrology can be used to help a company plannext year’s business, such as when to market products, change sales staff, train, relocate. The possibilities areendless, and, again, it is suggested that the individualemploying the astrologer be very clear about what it is theywish to accomplish. I use a questionnaire in my practicethat is placed in my recently published book, BusinessAstrology 101: Weaving the Web Between Business and Myth. This is the questionnaire that I give to clients who wish to

Page 10: Financial and Business Astrology

work with me. The questionnaire assists me in focusing onwhat this client’s needs are. I also obtain a Request ForProposal (RFP) from the potential client to further definewhat I am doing for them.In real estate, the transaction chart is very important todetermine the way in which the proposed contract will takeus. The first house, for example, represents the seller andthe seventh house, the opposite point, represents the buyer. We view the Moon to see its aspects, particularly the finalaspect it forms, which gives us a clue as to how thistransaction will end.In many contracts, there is a place for the date of thesignature, and there used to be in real estate contracts atime, too. The very last counter offer that is signeddesignates the final contract time. If a contract is still innegotiations and has not been completed by a signature ofthe last offer, then we do not have the proper chart foranalysis. This falls under the umbrella of a BusinessAstrologer whose strength may be in analyzing contracts andindividual event charts or electional charts, which arecharts that show the starting time of something like abusiness, a project, or a groundbreaking. You can make excellent use of a Business Astrologer tofind the right time and date to officially open a business orincorporate, or to present a company to the public for aFirst Trade. First Trade charts are thoroughly covered inBill Meridian’s book Planetary Stock Trading. It isimportant to distinguish between First Trade charts andCorporation charts. First trade charts are when the ChiefOperating Officer or President first walks onto the stockmarket floor to purchase stock prior to the publicpurchasing it. They purchase the first shares, thus thename, First Trade. This chart indicates the stock activity ofthe company. In contrast to this is the incorporation chart, which is for when a company first has its papers stamped bythe state or region in which they were incorporated. Theincorporation chart shows us the internal structures of acompany, such as how inter-office communications arehanded, what benefits are provided for employees, and the

Page 11: Financial and Business Astrology

state of mind of the current head executives. This chart isused in analyzing the company’s long-term growth as well asfor planning. If we want to know about its inter-officecommunication, its employees, its products, its public face orstockholders, we look to the incorporation chart or the chartfor when the company first opened its doors to business andtook in the first dollar.Over time incorporation charts may change as mergersor acquisitions occur, and for this reason it is important tomaintain the original incorporation of a company as it movesthrough its various metamorphoses. It is also important tohave the charts of the leaders of the company, those makingthe decisions. Written permission is needed from anyonewhose chart is being viewed for this analysis. The wordpermission brings up an important point. Correctincorporation data a matter of public record in the UnitedStates and can be retrieved by calling the state in which a

company was incorporated. Incorporation charts can beused for company planning and repositioning employees, aswell as re-training or re-structuring the employees to workin new ways. This can be achieved by viewing theincorporation chart, and refined if we have the employees’birth data. This is where things may get tricky, anotherreason we ask for written permissions. If an employee is unwilling to give their birth data, which is not required by law in the United States, it is verydifficult to do this larger analysis. If they are willing andgive permissions, it makes things much easier. I had a clientfor many years that, once a year, would call me in onweekends to work with all of her employees and their chartsin terms of a business plan for the next year. I would havethe data, given by permission by the employees, prior to ourmeetings. I would first talk with each individual employeeabout what I saw. And, in fact, we did occasionally reviewsome of the more personal aspects of their yearly forecastand this information remained privately with the employee. However, we also covered their position in the company andhow each could best improve performance, thus improving

Page 12: Financial and Business Astrology

the efficiency overall, and that part of the information wouldbe shared in a group meeting with all parties concerned. This was also shared with the owner, who was my client. This method is one of the best ways for a business astrologerto work. Working to strengthen a company from within, toprepare it for signposts along the future road of largerfinancial trends that financial astrologers are expert in - toinclude that information is particularly useful when specificissues are identified and we focus on those issues first. Wederive this information from the Request for Proposalprovided by the employer in the beginning of the process. There are certain times during the year when acompany is more visible and other times of the year when itwithdraws and regroups. The business astrologer canidentify these times by reviewing the angles. The higher andmore elevated houses of the company horoscope - the ninth, tenth, and eleventh houses - are very much in the world andrecognized by the community at large. During the yearwhen several planets travel through this portion of the chartand when New and Full Moons occur, there is much moreouter world activity. It is easier to grab market share andpublic attention during these times. The converse of this is true, too. During times of theyear when planets are traveling through the bottom of thecompany’s chart, or even the owner’s chart, the companymay not want to be in front of the public. This is a great timeto re-evaluate business plans, design and re-design the workenvironment, or review and rewrite the schedules for theyear. This is a very important and creative time for acompany or an individual. This period could even manifestby the people in the company moving and throwing awayfiles, or uploading them into an entirely new computersystem for an efficient return when the business becomesmore visible later in the year. There is an old saying thatasks, “Why fight the river?” There are certain times duringlarger cycles as well as within the measurable year thatthings flow more easily, and other times in which they donot. Astrological consulting can indicate those periods and, again, this is one of its greatest uses. Most people know

Page 13: Financial and Business Astrology

what to do intuitively. It is a known fact that manysuccessful business owners are highly intuitiveand listen to their instincts. The horoscopevalidates the individual’s or the company’s subjectiveexperience. If a company does not have incorporation, we can usethe moment they opened their doors or took in their firstdollar. That is an “incorporation chart” of sorts. We stillanalyze it in the same manner as an incorporation chart of acompany of stock that is public. The only difference is thatthere may be only one owner and one or two employees. Thisis easier to analyze because not as many people are involvedin it. The smaller the entity, the more one needs to reviewthe owner’s charts, because the structure of the companytakes on more of a pyramid structure, where there is oneperson at the helm and responsibilities filter down. This isan older but still a very commonly used model in business. There are many more publicly traded companies that stillhave their CEO (Chief Operating Officer) at the top, but whoemploy a more MBO style (management by organization)than in early years to the twentieth century. In fact during one of the larger cycles between the early1980’s and the mid 1990’s corporate structures changed andtransformed into entirely new organizational models. Thisincluded de-centralization as well as hiring employees as‘portfolio-people’, a type of independent contractor. Thesenew job models allowed the company to save money by nothaving to pay insurance benefits and vacation pay, to whichfull time employees are entitled. This was a large part of themassive downsizing that arose in the corporate world duringthe early 1980’s. Another innovation during this time wasthe introduction of the personal computer and the Internet, which allowed people to telecommute and begin a new modelof virtual offices, enabling people to conduct business fromany place in the world. The period that created this magnificent shift was

Page 14: Financial and Business Astrology

accompanied by running conjunctions when planets line upwith each other during their orbits. This created thechemical synergy of Uranus, the planet of awakening andnew ideas, a la the Internet; of Neptune, which dissolvesborders and boundaries, thus the great mergers at thebeginning of that movement; and of Saturn, the planet thatrepresents structures and cautious planning. The initialphase of this Saturn-Neptune-Uranus conjunction periodwere quite devastating, because these were all new models. The perception of how business should be conducted as wellas the fear of change had to first disappear, before thesenew, seemingly unbelievable virtual structures appeared. The terms for physically real offices and warehouses is nowBrick and Mortar to distinguish them from Internet drivenformats, called virtual. The point is that a small company now has as much of achance for growth and change as a larger corporatestructure. The world's playing field has been leveled andthis entirely new concept allows and affords creativesolutions for all businesses. The business astrologer canhelp a company seize those moments in time when there areopportunities and a kind of corporate inspiration for alarger and greater vision. My sense is that as we movethrough time and the global marketplace becomes as easy toenter as it is to drive down to the neighborhood store, manydifferent disciplines will be incorporated into the world ofbusiness analysis. The higher we soar, the greater the view, and this view stimulates a kind of global consciousnesswhereby we learn that we are all really quite the same andnot that different. We can also be much closer to each othereven though we may not be there in the physical form. Weare able to exchange more information with a larger groupof people without having to travel by car or plane. An astrologer can help a business owner recognizethese windows of possibility when the owner is unable to seeit because of being too close to the problem. How does onecompany’s chart relate to another company’s chart? This iswhere a Business astrologer can help, too. If a couple of

Page 15: Financial and Business Astrology

acquaintances are talking about building their businesses byincreasing their strengths through partnership, they can doone of two things. They can consult with a businessastrologer to tell them whether or not partnering is even aviable possibility. Are the values of each companycompatible with the values of the other, and in sync withthem? For example, their Venus placements can becompared, because Venus is one of the planets that rulesvalues, spending, earning power, and skills, which enhanceour businesses. We would have to look at the two companies’Mars positions, the planet that represents motivation andstrategic planning. How do they compare between the twocharts? Are they compatible, or do they suggest difficulties? If they suggest difficulties, this does not necessarily meanthey cannot blend their energies, but would need tounderstand their different styles and approaches to planningand strategy. When we compare companies or individuals inpartnership, it is a good idea to have some differences, because if they are too similar, then the new company mayexperience inertia. Identifying and presenting various waysin which to incorporate their differences is the task of theastrologer, whose job it is to ask the right questions in orderto facilitate a possible match.I am not of the school of knowing nothing about theclient before they arrive at my office. It is imperative thatwe ask questions and an important step to have themcomplete the questionnaire and submit the Request forProposal. To expand upon this, an Asset Manager requires aclient fill out forms in order to best service their client. When everything is on paper, it is much easier to define thefirst step, the second and then the third. And since we areusing the many astrological cycles, it is important that wehave this defined so we can decide which ones are moreimportant and which can be ignored, at least for this portionof the analysis. For either the financial or business astrologer, a lot oftime involved and it is important for your clients to be awareof how time is billed and determine the budget. Every

Page 16: Financial and Business Astrology

calculation, every moment on the phone or on email involvestime and it is important to identify this as billable. Saturn isthe planet that rules time. We never have enough of it,always wish we had more. With the current transitingposition of Saturn in Gemini, time (Saturn) and informationand know-how (Gemini) constitute a powerful commodity.Astrological information can be considered a commodity asmuch as orange juice and pork bellies!

Short-Range PlanningThe Daily Cycle:There are four phases to the day that lastapproximately six hours per phase. Daily planning can bemade much more efficient as well as effective if these cyclesare followed. Each day in business we ask ourselves thequestion of when do we talk with our clients, when do wereach out to the community or fellowship organizations forreferrals and support. We also have a part of the day inwhich our business either winds down or where we want tothink in a more creative way. By taking time to throwaround ideas for creative solutions, we can implement bettersystems and methods into what we do. There are also partsof the day where we simply need to wind down. What are these cycles?Phase 1:From sunrise to approximately noon, the Sun (life andenergy) rises in the upper quadrant of that day’s natal chart. The upper left quadrant of the circle is the area where weconnect with first, ourselves, and regroup or mediate for theday and, as we move to approximately 10 am - give or take30 minutes depending upon the season of the year - we talkwith those in the community either on the phone, via emailor fax, or in person to exchange ideas. This moves us rightthrough the midday, when many people take a break. In thebusiness community, we “go to lunch”, which really is sayingwe go to connect with each other and form businessalliances.Phase 2:

Page 17: Financial and Business Astrology

This begins as the Sun moves from the upper leftquadrant to the upper right quadrant of that day’s chart. This is the relationship quadrant. The time in this portion ofthe day’s wheel is from approximately noon until about sixin the evening. Around this time, the sun is setting on theright side of the horizon line of the day’s horoscope. If yourbusiness is primarily about relationships with others, thenthe noon part of the day through approximately 6 pm is agood time to talk with people, to consult with others, or toact as consultant if that is your business.Phase 3:From sundown until about midnight, the Sun passesthrough the lower right quadrant of the day’s wheel, whichis the area of the chart that includes processing ideas andclarifying these ideas into concrete systems and methods. This is also the part of the day’s wheel where we embarkupon some sort of playful creativity. At this time of the daywe may be more relaxed and ideas may flow more easily. Some of the best business ideas come from social functions inwhich strangers meet and form more alliances that reflect amutual friendship based on similar value systems. A lot ofour creative work is best pursued during this portion of theday.

Phase 4:Usually from late evening through the night is whenpeople rest, unless they have a job that requires them towork at night. This portion of the day’s wheel is when theSun passes through the lower left quadrant of the chart. This is a very independent quarter of the chart. It is whenwe might be most alone and our independent selves. Atsunrise, the day begins again as the Sun moves above thehorizon and into the upper left quadrant of communityrelations.Monthly Cycles:The above is a simple daily guide to daily planning. However, in the course of a 28 1/2 day cycle, the Moon

Page 18: Financial and Business Astrology

makesa full cycle around the earth. It has eight phases in total. The four major parts of this eight-part cycle are separatedby approximately a week. The first phase is the New Moon, when the Moon is dark and the Sun and the Moon arealigned, the second phase is the First Quarter Moon (whichlooks like a half moon with the light of the moon shining onthe right), and a week later is the Full Moon, which is thephase of the Moon most popularized in the media and film, and, finally, the Last Quarter Phase (again, this looks like ahalf moon, with the light on the left hemisphere). A weeklater, the cycle begins again with the New Moon.If we plan our monthly business cycles using this basicplan, then it may be much easier to flow with the energy. For example, from the time of the New Moon to two weekslater when we have the Full Moon, the Moon is growing insize and energy. The Moon has to do with habits, memory, and the public. In business astrology, it represents productsand employees. Since this first two weeks is the growingcycle of the month, it seems logical that this is a good time toinstigate or introduce new product lines or let people knowabout what is available. My experience suggests that thereis more of a buying cycle as the Moon increases in light. From the time of the Full Moon to the New Moon, which, again, begins the lunar cycle, we disperse information, release old papers, files, and even clients and old habits.Usually major decisions or pending decisions maximize orpeak themselves out from the time of the Full Moon to theLast Quarter Moon. This is the best part of the cycle todiscriminate between activities, to separate the wheat fromthe chafe. As business people we may ask such questions as,“Should I discontinue this product line since there is littlecall for it?” or “Which employees are doing their jobs andwhich are not?” or “Which of these files should I keep, orfollow up?” This period of time is when we disseminateinformation to our clients. Prepare mailings during the LastQuarter cycle to mail around the New Moon, when the cyclebegins again.

Where these cycles occur in your chart or, moreimportantly, in your corporation chart, indicates in whichcapacity these ideas can best be implemented. This requiresthe skills of an experienced cycles analyst, an astrologerwho synchronizes the cycles and events for you. Theamazing thing about this system is that if, in fact, theindividual is listening to their intuition, they are usuallyfollowing the cycles mentioned above. Intuition is thenumber one gift of successful business people. The secondimportant gift or skill is listening to it, rather thanchallenging it. As we move into the yearly cycles, we canrefer to the above monthly cycles in planning.

Basic Quarterly Cycles:There are four quarters to the year that occur at theseasonal shifts. They are Spring Equinox, SummerSolstice, Fall Equinox, and Winter Solstice. Theseseasonal shifts represent the transition from one way ofliving with nature to the next. It is well known in food andnutrition circles that we best eat the fruits and vegetables ofa particular season to best absorb the nutrients and vitaminsof that season. In winter we have carrots and in the summerwe have squash. This same seasonal reasoning can beapplied to seasonal business planning using astrology. This concept has a two-pronged approach. The first isto follow the natural cycles of seasonal shifts. We review andreconsider our options at the Winter Solstice so that we canhave new ideas that birth at the Spring Equinox. Cultivatingour crops of ideas and projects are well suited to thesummer months. As Fall Equinox approaches, those cropsare harvested and the holiday season is considered, forexample, to be the busiest part of the year for retail aspeople rush around buying presents to celebrate the year’sfruits. When we compute and analyze a corporate chart, orview an individual’s chart for planning, we look to the partsof their charts that show the time of the year when majorgrowth and expansion occur as well as the time of retreatand introspection in the other half of the year. Once this

Page 20: Financial and Business Astrology

timing is determined by calculating the time of birth of acorporation or first trade chart, we can measure goodplanning dates. For example, if the New Moon (New Beginnings) occursin a company’s second house, which is considered the houseof earning power and liquid assets, as well as spendinghabits, we know that in the Monthly Lunar Cycle the focusfor that particular month will probably be in this area ofactivity. However, this development is not restricted to justthis particular month.Astrology is based on the measurement of distancesbetween spaces and planets. This is geometry at its mostbasic form. It is important for us to understand and beaware of the 90º angle. To illustrate this point, think of thecorners on streets and in houses. Without these corners, wehave no structure. Therefore, those 90º angles areimportant in order to “build” and develop something. Wealso have these 90º angles in astrology. And those 90º anglestranslate into 90 days, or three months.Applied to a company viewing earning power and tryingto figure out a new way in which to manifest greaterearnings or more efficient spending, this is a concept thatmay develop over the course of an entire year. This conceptincludes the idea of the 90º angle, which translates to theidea of 90-day or three-month increments. For example, late February is approximately 90 days from late May. LateFebruary is when the Sun enters Pisces. Late May is whenthe Sun enters Gemini. Pisces and Gemini are square toeach other, 90º or approximately 90 day’s distance fromeach other. Thus, if the company begins its Earning Powerstudy in February around the time of the New Moon Cycle, the new beginning cycle, it is likely that it will see some sortof concrete plan emerge in late May, or, the corresponding90-day sequence. In this example, these sequences continueto occur around late August and again in late November andthen in late February again. This formula allows us to plan macroscopically as wellas microscopically. And, of course, this is a very simplified

version. In my newly published book, Business Astrology101, I further explore this concept by including illustrationsfrom some of the planning aids that I use when working withmy business clients. For more information, go to my website to order my book or other teaching materials at http://www.starcycles.com or by calling the US at 00-1-925-689-7827.In keeping with the idea of a 90-day formula, thissystem is further enhanced when the cycles accompany themuch slower moving, most distant planets from Saturn on outto Pluto. When these slower planets accompany thesemeasured cycles, the results are even more profound andtimely.

Long-range planningLarger Cycles in Business, Stocks & CommoditiesThere are many long-range cycles that make theirmarks on history and trigger economic changes that occurwith concurrent philosophical changes. Some of these planetcycle returns are as follows:247-Year Pluto Cycles165-Year Neptune Cycles60-Year Chiron Conjunct Pluto Cycles50-Year Chiron Cycles30-Year Saturn Cycles12-Year Jupiter CyclesAs these various planets return to the same place in thesky, trends surface that are similar to the last time theytraveled through this same space. Since technology andcapability increases over time, we have to view thesereturning cycles with an objectivity which allows us to see

Page 22: Financial and Business Astrology

the potential in the next return of that cycle. For example, before the 1950’s, people didn’t have television. It was justbeing developed. In the early 21st century, we not only havetelevisions, but every type of viewing vehicle possible, whichinclude computer-generated imagery. When we thought ofhaving computer-generated imagery in the early 1950’s, itwas unimaginable because we did not have the knowledge orperceptions to see beyond our experience.

Let's use one of the planetary return examples, Saturn,a planet that takes 29.5 years to make a full cycle around theSun, and its return to the sign of Gemini, the sign of thetrickster and the youngster. Gemini is also the sign ofcommunications, agencies, as well as sales and writingefforts. The challenge of Saturn is about the application ofstructure and form. It asks us to distill our forms into verysimple and skeletal types of structures. Saturn in Geminisuggests the need for maturity for all people on the face ofthe earth. It is the time, perhaps, of ending irresponsibleacts and activities. During the last time that this occurred,in the United States, we were winding down the Vietnam Warand Richard M. Nixon, in time, would be impeached forillegal actions to do with the Watergate break-in.During the time that Saturn was in Taurus, a cyclewhich ended in Spring, 2001, we saw reconstruction of oureconomic formats and in Europe, the euro became the newcurrency. In the United States, the Bull Market of manyyears took a downward turn as Saturn (reality) was exitingthe sign of Taurus, the sign of money and investments, and aBear Market took over.Where in one's horoscope, or in one's companyhoroscope these Saturn return cycles occur is where weexperience a kind of “coming of age” cycle, which require arealistic view of what needs to be released and a concreteplan for what changes lay ahead. Saturn, in myth and story, was a builder, and so wherever it travels through the

Page 23: Financial and Business Astrology

corporate chart, is where there is a building andstructuring. This building and structuring is not easy, requires dedication, and triggers ambition. It can make acompany uncomfortable and that state of discomfort is oftendirectly related to the level of motivation exhibited. Itseparates the important issues from the unimportant ones. And, within its entire context, asks us to be wise and ethical.During this next cycle when Saturn travels throughGemini, for all businesses the challenge will be that ofethical business habits. Gemini is the trickster child alsoknown as Hermes in Greek myth. The trickster child fromthe moment of his birth leaps out of his cradle and, for hisfirst act as a newborn, steals his brother Apollo’s cattle, or,in some versions of the story, his sheep. Saturn just asquickly returns to his crib feigning innocence after his theft. However, in the eyes of his father - Zeus or Jupiter - thetruth is known, but Jupiter also appreciates the clevernessof his son. This allegory is an example of the challenges that lieahead in business through 2003, the year when Saturnfinally exits the sign of Gemini. This passage of Saturnthrough Gemini expects and requires us to remember theethics of our actions and reactions. These actions andreactions can either build our individual and businesscharacters, or destroy us. It suggests the time of putting“childish” things away, of growing up, of maturing, ofreturning to learn more skills to best serve our customers. In a recent Fortune Magazine, March 2001, there wasan article about the now bankrupt thousands of “dotcomers” particularly those in the United States, who are nowopting for completing their educations. The seduction ofmoney and success, though short lived, circumvented theireducations. There may have even been a belief of “whyshould I continue my education, when I can make a lot ofmoney right now?” The challenge of Saturn in Taurus, asign ruled by the planet Venus, which rules values, was toclearly define our values and act on those values. And, sincethe planet Saturn was involved, the Karmic implication ofwhat happens when we do not conscientiously act on those

Page 24: Financial and Business Astrology

values. In other words, a house can tumble down without asolid foundation.Saturn always forces us to ask “why” we do things, andwe respond with some sort of forthright and responsible actin the area of the chart through which it travels. For thepopulation in general, the next three years are abouteducation, information and its proper transmission. It alsochallenges us to speak, think, and communicate ethically andhonestly. Illegal government actions or in governing bodiesare likely to present themselves within the structure ofcorporations and the governing bodies of these corporationsin the course of the next three years. So, in conclusion, this article, an overview of thedifferent types of economic astrology has explored somevery basic principles and differences between the twobranches. It has explored the basic cycles that we use forplanning, particularly in the area of Business Astrology, which is my particular expertise. It has also attempted todefine, in very simple terms, the smaller daily and monthlycycles and to show you how to incorporate them into ayearly planning cycle. The final portion of this articlebriefly explores the greater planetary cycles and how theyaffect entire blocks of time. In this particular case, weexplored the cycle of Saturn, which is a 29.5-year cycle andits application to certain trends. As you can see, astrological delineation is a series ofexploring cycles that operate under larger and largerumbrellas. The cycles integrate with each other beautifullyin one grand plan. The purpose of a good astrologer is tovalidate your subjective experience and to extrapolate thesevarious cycles and define them so that you, the client, individual or company, can best use the information given asa tool of confirmation and better business planning within inthe contexts of your community, whether it be local orglobal.Respectfully submitted byGeorgia Stathis, M.B.A.
