Cal Grant Submission In order to receive a Cal Grant, students MUST fill out the FAFSA and also, have their GPA submitted to CSAC. It is the school’s responsibility to calculate and send each student’s GPA to the commission. We collected Social Security Numbers from each student in order to prepare for Cal Grant Submission. Information we will submit for each student includes: Name Date of Birth Address Social Security # GPA If your student does not have a SSN, we can and will submit their GPA for financial aid consideration through the CA Dream Act.

• On 01/13 or 01/15, Counselors will be pulling students out of their English Class to help them complete the FAFSA or CA Dream Act.

• Please make sure your student is PREPARED on this day! (“Documents Needed” listed on back of workshop schedule)• In order to help students complete the FAFSA, parents must

also sign up for an FSA ID, which will allow you to make and approve any changes made to your student’s FAFSA. • To apply for the FSA ID, please visit:

Documents Needed for FAFSA• Student Driver’s License • Student Alien Registration Card or Green

Card

• Student and Parent:• Social Security cards• 2015 W-2 Forms and records of

money earned and other• 2015 federal income tax form

(even if not yet completed)• Records of untaxed income• Current bank statements• Business, farm, and other real

estate records• Records of stocks, bonds, and

other investments

Create a file for copies of all financial aid documents submitted.

Most important document – Parent’s 2015 Tax Return & W2’s if possible.

If not, 2014 Tax Return is fine (we can make corrections later)

Parental Information• Never married and not living together: • Provide information on the parent you are currently living with.

• Unmarried and both parents living together: • Provide information about both parents regardless of their gender.

• Married or remarried: • Provide information about both parents regardless of their gender. If

remarried, include stepparent’s information.• Divorced or separated:• Provide information for the parent you lived with more during the past 12

months.• Widowed:• Provide information for the surviving parent.

Parent Cash, Savings, & Checking

• Most parents will be asked to report…• the current balances of their cash, savings, and checking• net value of their investments such as real estate, rental property,

money market and mutual funds, stocks, bonds and other securities

• net value of their businesses, partnerships and investment farms

• Do not report the home in which you live, the value of life insurance and retirement plans, or the value of a family-owned and controlled small business (less than 100 employees)

Special Circumstances• Contact the Financial Aid Office if there are

circumstances which affect a family’s ability to pay for college such as:

• Loss or reduction in parent or student income or assets• Death or serious illness• Natural disasters affecting parent income or assets such as the recent

California wild fires, floods, or mudslides• Unusual medical or dental expenses not covered by insurance• Reduction in child support, Social Security benefits or other untaxed

benefit• Financial responsibility for elderly grandparents• Any other unusual circumstances that affect a family’s ability to

contribute to higher education
