Notes:*What is a Sickle Cell Disease?-Is a disorder of blood caused by inherited abnormalhemoglobin.
~ Another way to call Sickle Cell Disease is SickleCell Anemia.*How is Sickle Cell Disease inherited?-Is inherited as an autosomal recessive condition whereas an autosomal dominant trait.*How is Sickle Cell Disease diagnosed?-A simple blood test, done at any time during a personslifespan, can detect whether he or she has Sicklehemoglobin. However, early diagnosis is veryimportant.*What are the symptoms & treatments of SickleCell Disease?-Fever, swelling & inflammation of hands &/ or feet,pain crises, fatigue & anemia, jaundice (Yellowishdiscoloration of the skin & eyes), vision problems, lung& heart injury, & other features.- The tissues with impired circulation suffer damagefrom lack of oxygen.*How is Sickle Cell Disease treated?-Sickle Cell Disease has no widely available cure.However, treatments can help relieves symptoms &treat complications.-Early diagnosis of Sickle Cell Disease is critical so thatchildren who have the disease can receive propertreatment.
*Important Facts.-People with Sickle Cell Disease should avoid contactwith anyone suspected of having fifth disease, whichcaused by parvovirus. Parvovirus can cause totemporarily stop making blood, a server life-threatening problem with Sickle Cell Disease.-Early treatment is very important & may includeoxygen, pain medicines, antibiotics, & transfusions.-Routine lab test to monitor health include: ~ Complete blood count.
~ Urine test.~ Test to monitor the functioning of organs.
-Sickle Cell patients rarely lived past their 20s & morethan half of those who suffered from it died inchildhood.- There is no cure for the disorder.- Antibiotics help prevent infections I infant, &painkillers, intravenous fluids & breathing oxygen helpto treat episodes of pain.-Some of the hemoglobin forms ion, red- like structuresthat cause the red blood cells to be Sickle-shaped &
