4. Discuss : Why do you think celebrities support charities ?

Katy Perry is a famous American singer (Firework, Roar, Dark Horse). She is giving a fifty thousand dollar check to GiveLove, Patricia Arquette’s charity.

The picture was taken in Las Vegas in 2012. Katy Perry may have helped the charity by holding a concert.

Actually, she celebrated the grand opening of Las Vegas nightclub 1OAK (One of A Kind, 1 0AK) and presented a donation to the charity on that occasion.

The picture represents two anonymous girls who are carrying cardboard boxes in Romulus, Michigan (USA).

They are dressed alike / wearing the same T-shirt because they belong to the same charity.

The boxes may contain clothes, books, school equipment, unused medicines or toys. They may be sent to people in need.

The two pictures are about charities. Altruistic people spend time or money on causes.

In the 1st picture, celebrities support GiveLove by giving a lot of money to the association. They also lend their image to sensitise people to the cause.

In the second picture, the two girls devote time to the association. They are not famous, and they may not have a lot of money. And yet, they carry heavy boxes to lend a hand.

Celebrities may support charities because they are generous / they know they have influence / to help the needy / to give as much as they have received / to make self-publicity / to have a clear conscience.
