The rock cycle is when the three types of rock igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary get transformed. For instance, sedimentary rock can transform into metamorphic rock because of heat and pressure. Metamorphic rock can transform into magma because of melting. Magma can transform into igneous because of cooling. Igneous rock can transform into sedimentary rock because of weathering. Shale is a sedimentary rock. Shale turns into slate from heat and pressure. Shale breaks easily. When you find Shale you find it in thin sheets because Shale has thin layers. Shale is dark grayish brown. Shale is mostly found near streams and rivers and oceans. Shale is smooth and crackey and dark. We can find Shale in Buffalo New York. Characteristics of Shale The hardness of Shale is a 3 on the Moh’s Scale. That means it can break easily! The luster of Shale is dull. The texture of Shale is smooth. The color of Shale is gray. Jr. Geologist: Janee (Grade 1)
