EVENT TIMETABLEREGISTRATION

Registration will be at the Electric Mountain Visitor Centre, Llanberis (LL55 4UR). This is located approx. 100m from the race start/transition. We would encourage those who can to register the day before your event to avoid a rush on the morning of your race. Remember; don’t forget to take the time to have a look around the Pedalcover Slateman Expo too!

Competitors must attend registration to collect your race pack, which includes the following items:

• Timing chip – secured to your ankle with the velcro strap provided and to be returned to the organisers at the finish line (Savage competitors MUST ensure they hold on to their tag following the sprint as they will use the same tag for the full).* • One race number bib – Worn on the back for the bike section and on the front for run section - a triathlon race belt facilitates this. Teams entries are provided with 2 bibs; one for the cyclist and one for the runner. • Bike Flag – peel the backing and secure to your bike seat post • Race number tattoo – Follow the printed instructions on the tattoo and place on the right upper arm and right outer calf. Teams are provided with 2 tattoos one for the cyclist (placed on right outer calf) and one for the runner (place on right outer calf) • Transition security wristband – must be worn at all times to access transition. • Colour coded swim hat – see swim section for more details. • Plus some other exciting race goodies!

*Please, please make sure you return your timing chip otherwise there is a £10 charge for lost chips.

Croeso / WELCOME

INSURANCE Unless you are an affiliated member of the British Triathlon Federation you must purchase a Day License Membership at registration. This provides you with third party liability insurance. It’s valid on the day of your competition and cannot be transferred. Please bring a cheque or the correct change of £5 to buy your membership at registration. Please present your day or annual membership to our team at registration when you pick up your goodie bag.

FREE BIKE CHECK We are offering a free bike check facility. So, bring your bike down on Friday between 17:00 and 20:00 or Saturday between 15:00 and 18:00.

The pedalcover SLATEMAN EVENT VILLAGE AND EXPO The Slateman Triathlon Event Village and Expo will have a number of stands from our event sponsors and partners, with information and goodies. It will be located in the sports field next to the community centre (the transition area is also located here). There will be lots to see and do for all the family whilst the race is going on, including live commentary, and all of the race action.

Here’s what to expect;

Always Aim High Store We’ll be selling Always Aim High goodies, including buffs and T-shirts. We will also be selling High5 sports nutrition products, including bars and gels and lots of bits for your bike too, not to mention loads of other kit!

“Carb Corner” at the event expo The Electric Mountain Café, within meters of event registration, will be selling the perfect pre-race food to fuel you before the big race. This will include Spaghetti Bolognese, pasta bakes and other pasta dishes, along with salads and other good stuff. Vegetarian options will be available. Make sure you fuel yourself up!

partnersYou’ll find our event partners set up on the field ready to answer all your questions about their amazing products.

Hot Food sellers We’ll have a huge range of sweet and savoury options available for you and your support team at the event village, along with all the great local cafe’s and restaurants in town.

FAmily entertainment There’ll be loads to do and see for all the family. Including bouncy castles and trampolines.

SPORTS MASSAGE Will be available in the event village for a small donation provided by Vibe Fitness.

FACILITIES There will be ample toilets in the Electric Mountain Centre and portaloos on the event field.

CAR PARKING There are numerous pay and display car parks located in Llanberis. Please make sure you buy a ticket because you are very likely to get booked if you don’t!

Please DO NOT park on the streets opposite and around the event village as this is residents parking only. Please be respectful that people live here and need access to their homes. Use the car parks shown on the map below only. Thank you.

GENERAL EVENT INFORMATION

Race DayTRANSITION SECURITYAll competitors will be issued with a race wristband, which must be worn for you to be allowed access to the transition area. Please respect this in the interest of safety and security of your equipment. You will also need to show your race number so that it matches the number on your bike when leaving transition at the end of the event.

To comply with British Triathlon Rule 7.1c which states that only small soft sided bags may remain in transition, there will be an area provided within transition to leave your bigger bags and boxes, however these will be left at your own risk. SPRINT TRANSITION TIMES (SATURDAY) OPENS 07:00 STRICTLY CLOSING AT 09:15Please be aware that transition must be clear of all competitors (except team members awaiting their relay mate) by 09:15. Finally, you can only rack your equipment in the transition area on the morning of your race. Savage competitors must re-rack their equipment on each day. Strictly ONE BIKE per person

FULL TRANSITION TIMES (SUNDAY)OPENS 06:00 STRICTLY CLOSING AT 08:45Please be aware that transition must be clear of all competitors (except team members awaiting their relay mate) by 08:45. Finally, you can only rack your equipment in the transition area on the morning of your race. Savage competitors must re-rack their equipment on each day. Strictly ONE BIKE per person

Please make sure you fill up your water bottles in Transition as there will not be a drink station on the bike routes.

There will be a drink station on the Full and Sprint run routes.

RACE TIMING The race will be timed using TDL services electronic timing systems. It is compulsory for all competitors to wear their timing chip. Failure to do so will result in you not being classified in the race results. Results will be texted yo your mobile phone.

PRIZE GIVING The prize giving for the Sprint Triathlon will take place on Saturday at the race finish at 12:30. The prize giving for the Full Triathlon will take place on Sunday at the race finish area at 13:30. If you think you’re a winner make sure you’re there to receive your prize, stand on the podium and receive a huge Welsh cheer! If you’re not a winner, come and give them a cheer with us. Prizes must be collected on the day and cannot be posted.

ROAD CLOSURE Please note, the Llanberis pass will be closed on Saturday 20th May to facilitate the Sprint Triathlon. The closure will be between Nant Peris (opposite the National Park car park) and the Pen y Gwryd Hotel (before the junction), between the hours of 09:00 and 12:15. Emergency vehicles only will be permitted access to the Llanberis Pass between these times.

LIVE RACE TRACKERThe Pedalcover Slateman Live Results system is now available on the website. Participants, family & friends can all use the Live Results to share in the fun. Sign Up now to have race progress of yourself, family and/or friends posted directly to your Facebook or Twitter feeds! On race day, spectators can get the status of runners in real-time using the Participant Tracker & Leaderboard. Details such as time, pace, and estimated finish will be instantly available! Just type in the name of the runner you want to track link it to your Facebook or Twitter - it’s as simple as that :) You can sign up on the Always Aim High Slateman Triathlon website.

EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY We are excited to be working with Mel Parry Photography and Sports Pictures Cymru at this years event. You will be able to view and purchase great photos of yourself post event on their websites.

EVENT T-SHIRTS If you haven’t ordered one already there will be a very limited supply for sale at the Always Aim High Event Shop.Pick up your pre-ordered t-shirts from the shop located on the field.

All T-shirts and prizes must be collected on the day and cannot be posted out.

Savage competitors will get their free finishers T-shirt as they cross the finish line on Sunday.

The swim course will be clearly marked with large round dumpy buoys and you will swim in a anticlockwise direction. You must keep the buoys on your left hand side. A map of the course will be on display at the registration desk.

Wetsuits are compulsory for the swim. Swim caps are supplied in your registration pack and must be worn on the start line and during the swim so that race safety officials can identify you in the water.

There will be safety kayaks and a motorboat to ensure your safety whilst swimming. If you get into difficulty during the swim please raise your hand and shout HELP for a boat to come to you and aid you to safety. You will be asked to hold onto the kayak, please do not attempt to climb on board!

LITTERING Any person found littering will be immediately disqualified from the event and banned from all Always Aim High Events. Please respect the beautiful location you are swimming, riding and running in and dispose of any gels or bottles responsibly. You may dispose of your gel wrappers at the designated litter points with event marshals along the route, and/or at the feed stations.

SAFETY BRIEFINGAll competitors MUST ATTEND the compulsory safety briefing in Transition on race day.

Sprint safety briefing – 09:00 in transition area on Saturday 20th May

Full safety briefing – 08:30 in transition area on Sunday 21st May

COMPULSORY CUT OFF TIMES

SPRINT – Any cyclists still on the road by 12:15 will be advised that the road will be re-opening and if they chose to continue it will be on open roads.

FULL – There is a 14:00 cut off on the cycle route. Anyone finishing the bike route after this time will not be allowed onto the run course.

cycle sectionChange into your cycling kit in the transition area.

Any cyclist taking part in a relay team should wait in the team handover area to pass on the timing chip that acts as a baton. This must be done before making their way to pick up their bike. The team handover area will be just inside the transition area as you enter from the swim. The area will be clearly marked.

A good quality and fit, British standard (or similar) helmet must be worn and fastened during the cycle section. This will be checked before the start and anyone not complying with these standards will not race.

IMPORTANT – your helmet MUST be fastened before you take your bike off the rack and MUST NOT be unfastened until your bike is back on the rack.

You should not mount your bike in the transition area. The location to mount and dismount your bike will be clearly marked with signs and will be staffed and checked by marshals. Be aware of pedestrians, they may not have seen or heard you if you are approaching them from behind.

The cycle route is clearly signposted. Marshals and signs will guide you at junctions and roundabouts.

The Highway Code must be strictly obeyed. Give way to traffic at junctions and roundabouts; marshals are NOT there to stop traffic. You must obey all traffic lights, signals, signs and markings.

Motorbikes will be present during the cycle section to support, guide and referee.

SPRINT CYCLISTS - In the interests of safety cyclists MUST NOT cut corners or cross white lines on the ascent or descent of Llanberis Pass. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in disqualification from the event. Be aware white lines can be very slippery when wet – exercise caution! This is an extremely steep, windy section of the route and for sprint competitors the descent can be fast and hazardous if you do not exercise caution. Please remain aware at all times!

The return into the field and the transition area is a ‘give way’. The highway code applies, you MUST give way to traffic in this area.

The sprint turnaround area is a tight U-turn at the bottom of the A4086 BEFORE the junction. You must slow down and get in the correct gear. Please exercise caution.

The Slateman Triathlon is a non-drafting event. Failure to adhere to British Triathlon rules laid out in the British Triathlon Rulebook will result in disqualification. Please see the diagram on drafting.

ALL - Exit from transition to main road - be aware of approaching traffic. Exercise caution.

The Sharp Left Junction A4086- A498

sprint only - Pen y Gwryd - Sprint turnaround – Sprint competitors make a tight U-turn at the far side of the Llanberis pass on the Pen y Gwryd side. The turn around point is before the junction. It is crucial that you slow down and get in the correct gear.

Full ONly - Junction at A4086 and A5 (Pinnacle Café) – be aware of traffic turning for shops and give way on to the junction with main A5 potentially busy road.

Sprint only - Descent of Pen Y Pass & Pont Y Gromlech crossing – Do not cross white lines on descent and take care when approaching the Pont Y Gromlech bridge, which involves a sharp right then left turn. Exercise extreme caution and slow down!

cycle specific hazards

All - Pen y Pass to Pen y Gwryd – Steep descent - sharp left hand bend half way down - fast approach to give way. Slow down!

all - Finish – be prepared to stop - dismount – be aware of officials and pedestrians.

full only -Left turn off A5 onto B4409 – Sharp left hand turn on descent. Please keep to the left hand side of the road and do not cut any corners as there may be oncoming vehicles. Slow down and exercise caution.

full only - Tregarth Village – Be aware of parked vehicle - speed humps - pedestrians including children. Slow down and exercise caution.

full only - Junction B4409 with A4244 – Give way potentially busy road. Slow down and exercise caution.

Full only - Roundabout - A4244 with B4547 (Ty Mawr) - Give way to traffic from the right

full only - Junction A4244 with A4086 – Give way potentially busy road. Slow down and exercise caution.

full only - Ogwen Cottage to Bethesda – Steep descent, windy (bendy) road - Do not cross the double white lines. Exercise caution!

full only - Pelican crossing on A4086 in Llanberis – must stop at red lights be aware of pedestrians.

run sectionChange into your running kit in the transition area. The run is well signposted and marshals will be present at many junctions.

Runners taking part in a team should wait in the team handover area to receive their timing chip from the cyclist. The cyclist finishing their section must rack their bike in the transition area before making their way to the team handover point.

Part of the run is on public footpath, please be aware and considerate to other pedestrians.

Sprint Run Drink Station: There will be a water only drink station at approximately 2.5km on the sprint run route.

Full Run Drink Station: There will be a drink station with water and High5 products at approximately 6.1km at the Bus Stop quarry at Deiniolen and a water only drink station at approximately 8.2km.

IMPORTANT Run course specific hazards:

Road crossing adjacent to quarry museum – The road is open to traffic.

Run along the Llanberis to Nant Peris Road (full tri only) – competitors must keep to the pavement at all times. Follow signs and marshals instructions.

Slate Trails – please be aware that the trails are uneven and rough underfoot. Suitable ‘off road’ footwear should be worn.

Bus Stop Quarry (full tri only) – at the top of the run you will cross the road at bus stop quarry. Please be aware that the road is open to traffic.

Country Park Descents – there are a number of these and they are steep and very slippery in wet conditions. Please take care when running downhill.

Fachwen – you will run along a short section of road (approx 500m) at Fachwen which is a public road. Look out for traffic.
