Costume

The costume of Mr Flatt represents his professionalismand the fact that he is in a position of authority.

The costume of Peter is to portray his everymancharacter; his casual look also foreshadows the dialoguelater with Mr Flatt.

Set & Location

The office shows a place of professionalismwhich contrasts against Peter’s character.

The white room is the conclusion of the storyand is referenced on the poster and the title of the film.

This over the shoulder shot put emphasis on the cereal bowl; also the focus pull by being directly in the middle of the scene. It also acts somewhat like a point of view shot, by having the character who is viewing the bowl only marginally in shot.

This is an establishing shot; it ensures that character, location and events are all taking place in one camera movement; Peter’s stepping onto the bus establishes that he will be travelling and sets up location for the next shot.

This is a depth of field shot; by having both the traffic light button and Peter in shot, it establishes verisimilitude as well as the character in providing action.

These two shots – coming one after another in the finished film –are practising the 180 degree rule. By taking place solely on the leftside of the character, and therefore adhering to the rule, it ensurescontinuity between the two separate shots.

This shot is both a close up and a point of view shot. By having this shot,we enabled the audience to be as close to the opposite character as possible, displaying their emotions in accordance with the speech beforehand.

The sound is represented by both diegetic and non-diegeticsound; the sound of the bus, the cereal being poured into thebowl, the phone ringing etc. is to create a sense ofverisimilitude in Peter’s life. It is punctuated however bya soundtrack; a generic convention of many films in order toportray the montage, another stereotypical method of comedy films.
