Film 4 Audience Member Name: Billy Johnson Age: 19 Hometown: Brixton, London Interests: Billy likes living his life how he wished, without the constraints of routine. He goes to art college but doesn’t really enjoy as he thinks “art cannot be taught or assessed”. He enjoys being obscure and different from the crowd, and deliberately doesn’t conform to the popular things in the world. Billy Dissected: Billy loves to shop of markets, especially Camden, where he can buy all the alternative gear that you couldn’t get in high-street designer places. He hates those places for the fact they make the majority “blindly follow, like sheep, the fashion of the day, therefore they lack originality or identity.” His music is very personal to him, it is his identity to him, he despises pop music for being commercial trash that offer nothing for the people. He adores rock music. His favourite bands are the Sex Pistols, Nirvana, The Clash, Richard Hell and the Voidoids and the occasional reggae. He downloads his music illegally because it’s free and quick. Movies, however, he pays legally for as he wants to respect the industry as one day he hopes to make films himself and would like to think he’d get paid for it. In terms of films he likes, he likes with good story and characters and has been made with freedom of the artist, and doesn’t really care if they are Hollywood or Independent, although generally this is very rare in Hollywood. His favourite film is ironically The Dark Knight, an expensive Hollywood film, but the he also admires 28 Days Later, Bronson and Heartless. Billy’s political interests are small, as he believes all 3 main parties are the same. He votes Labour but believes it doesn’t work now seeing as “middle class people are running a working class organisation.” Billy doesn’t really read as he can’t get his head into books, really, and finds them tedious. If he does read, then it will be a graphic novel as he prefers visuals. Billy’s a kid that goes to his own rhythm, who doesn’t feel pressure from society to fit in, work, get good grades and help the system. In fact he hates the system. He does what he wants and no-one tells him otherwise, or he’ll get mad and might confront you. He takes great pride in his difference and detachment from society and its norms as it gives him a feeling of satisfaction that he is genuine and not a pawn to the money-maker’s games.
