Miscellaneous Notes: Grew up in a low-income household in a particularly impoverished section of a town where almost a quarter of the population lives belowthe poverty line. Worked as a hunting guide throughout high school. Enlisted in the Army at the age of 18. Assigned to the 1 st Battalion, 505th Infantry Regiment(Airborne) in 1994. Participated in Operation Jungle Warrior (1997) in Panama. Separated from the service in 1999, earned his degree in psychology from theUniversity of New Mexico in 2003. Served as a guest lecturer and subject matter expert for the FLETC Artesia Facility's Backcountry Tactics and TrackingTraining Program in 2004. Worked briefly for the Taos Department of Veteran Services after receiving his substance abuse counseling license. Re-enlisted in2006. Assigned to the 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade's Long Range Surveillance Troop in 2007, deployed to Iraq in 2008. Was instrumental in thesuccessful capture of insurgents wanted for the poisoning Coalition water supplies in a joint US-Iraqi manhunt operation conducted in early 2009 in NinawaGovernorate. Fluent in Apache (Chiricahua, Jicarilla, Lipan, and Mescalero dialects), Hopi, Navajo, Taos, and Spanish; conversant in Jemez (Towa), Picurs,and Zuni.
