celebrate their 9th Reunion. Many travelled or flew from out of state. The occasion was graced by the presence of former Assistant Commissioner Paras Ram, Senior Superintendent of Police S K Mishra and all-time famous Ratu Meli Vakarewakubau the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations. Speaking to the gathering Paras Ram explained how he worked up the rank “sometime being tough and sometimes being humble” while S K Mishra bragged how he made it to the top with his HSF degree. That’s High School Failed degree. Well S K Mishra is not the only, I was the first ever police officer to have defied all standards (by the grace of God) to be appointed Commissioner’s Cadet without Fiji Junior Certificate but I made up for it in later years through TAFE Diploma and PSA Scholarship to the University of South Pacific. The guest of honor Ratu Meli, however, had a different take as he amused the crowd announcing that he was going back home because he was needed there more than here in USA as the self-ridiculed Commissioner Taleni last week resigned under pressure or his fake claim that God

used to tell him how to run the Police Department through Bible. Ratu Meli, vowed amid laughers, that he would only return if Obama called him back.

Former Commissioner’s Cadet Dr. H Koya took to the mic and said he had come in direct contact with Ratu Meli just a few times and he had a lasting impression. One of the high moments in his life was when he chosen by Ratu Meli to team with a very senior officer to be the door opener for the Queen. He said for high achievements, he had recommended Ratu Meli to be a Fellow of the American Institute of Management to be awarded later this year. In the interim, Koya said, he was awarding Ratu Melim Diploma in Police Science by Royal Fiji Police Institute. Officers treated themselves to several rounds of Fiji’s social drink “yangona”, bears and a sumptuous buffer by Jades Restaurant.
