COVID-19 UPDATE April 20, 2020 Some of Heart to Heart International's (HHI) latest efforts: Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic The COVID-19 crisis is affecting lives around the world. With the situation changing daily, we will continue to keep you informed about updates in our response to this unprecedented pandemic. Stay Healthy Kit Heart to Heart International's PowrServ program has introduced a hygiene kit specifically designed to prevent the spread of illness. Some of the included items: cloth face covering gloves hand sanitizing wipes soap We need your help to make and distribute these kits to people in the most vulnerable communities: Sponsor a kit for $10 HHI Medical Volunteers in hospitals – Heart to Heart International has deployed 12 volunteer medical staff to support the work of International Medical Corps in providing surge support for hospitals in New York City. Additional volunteers are deploying to Chicago this week. Hygiene Kit Deliveries – 25,000 Hygiene Kits have been delivered to food banks, homeless assistance groups, nursing homes, churches, public safety organizations, school districts and more in New York, New Jersey, Seattle, Florida, California, Minnesota, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Chicago, and Detroit. Medical Aid Shipped – 46 shipments of personal protective equipment, medicines and medical supplies, including n95 masks, patient masks, thermometers, sanitizing wipes, and gloves, were sent to hospitals, healthcare offices, pharmacies and more. Supplies have been delivered to facilities in Maryland, California, Kansas, Missouri, Virginia, Nebraska, Georgia, Texas, Illinois, Oregon, Minnesota and Indiana. Community Health Workers – HHI teams in Haiti and Puerto Rico continue deploying community health care workers to educate the public on healthy lifestyles, hygiene practices, symptoms of COVID-19, and medical follow-up instructions. HHI has also established handwashing stations in the open-air markets in Pétion-ville, Haiti. Community Support – HHI volunteers are providing medical care at Hope Faith Homeless Assistance Campus and to individuals waiting for COVID-19 test results who are quarantined in a nearby hotel. To date, 45 patients have been seen, with 5 suspected COVID-19 positive . Infection Prevention and Control Training – HHI is providing online Infection Prevention and Control Training for medical and non-medical workers. So far, we have trained over 130 individuals on how to stop the spread of COVID-19 and how to mitigate the risks for the more than 10,000 highly vulnerable people they collectively serve.
