PARISH NEWS

ST. BONAVENTURE COLUMBUS, NE

DONUT SUNDAY! Join us in the Parish Center following the 7 AM, 8:30 AM & 10:30 AM Mass today, May 02 for donuts, coffee and juice! Thank you to the St. Vincent de Paul Society for hosting!

CHURCH CLEANING Crew #4 will clean the Church on Friday, May 7 at 5:30 PM. Thank you to the following who cleaned Church on Friday, April 23: Chris Steinke, Carol Jaworski, Lori Moore, Janelle & Rod Brune, Tammy Bichlmeier, Deanna

Hoffman, Kevin Escobar, Keilyn Gonzalez, Milt & Kathy Zadina.

From our Pastor…

People were on fire for Jesus during the ABLAZE praise and worship event last Sunday evening, and they are talking to their family and friends about it. THAT’S evangelization in action! The ABLAZE crew witnessed the

movement of the Holy Spirit in our parish; they marveled at the strong participation during Masses and commented on the openness of our parishioners to God’s invitation to receive more! GOOD NEWS: There are plans to bring back Fr. Michael Voithofer and ABLAZE in the Fall. Praise God! In today’s Gospel, we are reminded that Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. When we remain in him, inviting him into our lives, we will bear much fruit. Our 2nd grade Family Faith Formation students will make their First Holy Communion this weekend; pray for them to remain rooted in God’s love. Thank you for your financial support of the JPII Newman Center in Omaha. Over $1,500 was raised. Since 2016, 32 Columbus students have lived at the Newman Center. Many more have joined in Bible studies—some from Creighton and College of St. Mary. We are so thankful for the fruits of this ministry. Encourage your college-age family members to get involved, if they live in Omaha. For more information go to jpiiomaha.org.

Blessings,

And we cannot forget the efforts of KC Belitz who was master of ceremonies. Gala Lottery Winners were: Barbara Brakenhoff ($12,000), Richard McPhillips ($500), Gary & Chris Bock ($500), John Hogue ($500) and Leonard Kaslon ($500.) Rifle Raffle Winner: Marcus Faltys. Gala Raffle Winners: Denise Waggoner ($1,500 in HyVee Gift Cards) and Ronette Preister ($500 Scheels Gift Card.) Jewelry Winners: Dr. Michelle Sell, Nicole Fleming. And the evening’s Biggest Win-ners: our students at Scotus – because of your generous support! The Gala venue at the new St. Bonaventure Parish Center was not only beautiful and functional but it also offered many amenities for Gala guests. Preliminary figures show an event net of $225,000. We also raised an additional $20,792 supporting the Gala fund-a-need project: to enhance the hot water distribution in our school.

THANK YOU! Parishes across the archdiocese held a special

collection last weekend for the JPII Newman Center. St. Bon’s collected $1,519.06 - Thank you for your generosity! This New-man Center creates a faith community for students at a time when so many are leaving the Church. Many of these students are ven-turing out on their own for the first time, away from the watchful eye of their parents, parish priests, and teachers. Especially in these confusing times and with the changes in our culture, there is an urgent need to keep students rooted in their faith.

SCRIP NEWS!!! During the last scrip fiscal year which ended March 31, we raised over $31,000 in scrip profits for our school. Thank you to all of our parishioners who buy scrip! Just imagine what we could raise if everyone pur-chased scrip regularly!! Scrip is a great fundraiser because no one is out any more than what they normally spend on everyday items such as groceries, gas, and the occasional restaurant dining.
