• IDEAS AND INSPIRATION: Once the design brief has been agreed, Harrods Gardens prepares a set of presentation drawings based on the design outline. This includes scaled sketch plans, perspective drawings and inspiration imagery. The team produces hand-drawn visualisations of the highest quality and, if required, models of the proposed garden.

• DR AWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS: Once the design has been finalised, Harrods Gardens prepares detailed construction drawings and specifications, including setting-out plans and technical drawings, so that the landscape contractor can provide price quotations.

• PLANNING THE PLANTING: The next stage is to prepare a detailed plan showing placement of plant varieties and a schedule that the team can work to.

• PREPARING TENDERS: If the contract is being put out to tender to several landscape contractors, Harrods Gardens will prepare all tender documentation and manage the tender process.

As part of Harrods Interiors, Harrods Gardens offers garden design, consultancy and construction services to clients all over the world.

Gardener Diarmuid Gavin and the Harrods team of illustrators, landscape architects and plantspeople plan schemes for gardens as well as designs for city roof terraces, private estates and public parks.

The Harrods Gardens team can help you explore the potential of your outdoor space and deliver beautiful and unique solutions in all situations, managing the development of the garden design concept, construction management and planting.

Water features, sculptures, furniture, garden lighting, security systems and outdoor entertainment systems are often central to our clients’ requirements.

The Harrods Gardens team meets clients wherever is convenient for them. Through meeting, we create a list of requirements to help develop the concept, considering practicalities along with the aesthetic aims for the space.

Following discussions with our clients, the team carry out a site analysis, prepare the garden design brief and

draw up the presentation plan, which can then be discussed and adapted until the client is ready to give final sign off.

Along the Côte d’Azur, a sloping site has given way to a new garden, complete with elevated terraces, beautiful stone pathways, a rose garden and a selection of sculptured evergreen shrubs.

The undulating lawn at the front of this garden provides an interesting sculptural focal point and is intended for children to play on. The grass waves play with light, helping separate the garden into different zones.

Diarmuid Gavin is an internationally renowned contemporary garden designer. Educated at Dublin’s Botanic Gardens, he holds an honorary doctorate from Nottingham Trent University.

In May 2016, Gavin created his ninth garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, which was an instillation inspired by the drawings and humour of William Heath Robinson. In association with this Harrods Chelsea Garden he designed an in-store month-long garden-themed festival.

Gavin has a long history of working partnerships with Harrods, creating gardens within the store, designing window sets and organising a Harrods Garden Festival. He is delighted to lead a team of gardeners, designers and plantspeople as Harrods Garden Designer.
