FIELDS OF ACTIVITIES RESEARCH . POST-GRADUATE TRAINING . ENGINEERING . TEACHING We are engaged in fundamental research, analysis, optimisation and development of turbines, pumps, valves and accessories as well as complete systems. In our Institute’s bachelor and master programmes as well as in the post-graduate programmes, we provide user-oriented and profound knowledge. These programmes are founded on our well- grounded know-how and our experience. As of our status as independent institute, we provide consulting in factual questions, develop technical solutions and perform assessments.

About HFM

Our team ranks among the leading experts for all questions regarding fluid mechanics in application-oriented mechanical engineering for turbines, pumps, valves and systems. Based on our comprehensive modular methodology system, we support our customers‘ successes and reliably keep our promises. We are independent and focus on team-work and cooperation with our scientific, research and business partners and customers.

„Based on the strong foundations of our research and teaching, we contribute answers to complex problems of application-oriented me-chanical engineering and help to promote innovations. Our core com-petences are in the fields of pumps, turbines, valves and complete systems for industrial applications.“ O.Univ.-Prof. DI Dr. Helmut Jaberg, Head of the Institute for Hydraulic Fluid Machinery

LEISTUNGEN / PRODUKTE ANLAGENMESSUNG

NUMERICAL SIMULATION

One of the ways to solve problems regarding fluid mechanics is numerical simulation, which we successfully apply for decades now. Numerical fluid mechanics / CFD often represent a rather cost-efficient method compared to experimental research.

- Analysis, design and optimisation of hydraulic fluid machinery, components and systems - Water hammer and pressure surge as well as transient conditions of fluid and gas flows

- Fluid-structure interaction

TEST RIG Our modern laboratory equipped with numerous state-of-the-art test rigs and reliable measurement technology allows for industry-oriented as well as application-oriented research and development work.

- Approval test acc. to IEC 60193, ISO 9906, IEC 60534

- Setups for long-term tests

- System, operation and life-cycle tests

- Comparison of experimental data with numerical simulation results (CFD)

ASSESSMENT & CONSULTING Our profound know-how, experience and well-established numerical as well as experimental methodology ensure the quality of our work on innovations and independent expertise.

- Feasibility studies

- Modernisation of power plants and systems

- Product development

- Support with regard to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)

- Damage events

ON-SITE MEASUREMENTS

A competent team of engineers provides our customers with independent measurements and consulting for the optimisation of industrial plants and power plants according to IEC 60041 and IEC 62006.

- Thermodynamic efficiency measurements

- Acoustic discharge measurements

- Head loss measurements

- Vibration and tension measurements
