DESCRIPTION

A Haleiwa woman claimed she was "disciplining her dog" and brutally killed it. The dog died from repeated stab woulds and mutilation. The owner was arrested for felony animal cruelty. Despite the Hawaiian Humane Society’s case work as well the expert testimony we provided and a determined felony prosecutor, the judge acquitted the defendant in large part due to mental health experts who claimed she was momentarily insane.

Despite Hawaiian Humane Society’s case work as well the expert testimony we provided and a determined felony

prosecutor, Judge Richard Perkins acquitted the defendant

on the grounds of mental disease.

Her child has been returned to her and she is allowed to own animals.

Special thanks to the Prosecutor’s Office

for their willingness to champion this case.
