Patrol Inspector:

Discontinue use of braid on sleeves of overcoats.

Senior Patrol Inspector:

April 4, 1928 .

One strip of black silk braid 3/16 of an inch wide on each sleeve, forming design as indicated in accompanying diagram.

Chief Patrol Inspect or:

Two strips of black silk braid 3/16 of an inch wide on each sloeve, as indicated in accompanying diagram.

Assist ant Superintandent:

Three strips of black silk braid 3/16 of an inch wide on each sleeve as indicated in accompanying diagram.

INSIGdIA INDICATING LENGTH OF _SERVICE:

Two years service:

One bar of bullion or br aid one inch in length, 1/4 inch in width placed horizontally on the left blouse sleeve, c�mterod 1/2 inch above the point of the b'lW3 cuff facing.

Four years service:

Two bars of bullion or braid of size indicated above, the second to be placed 1/4 irch below and par allel with the first.

Five years service:

Remove bars, subs titute one five pointed star of bullion, measuring 1/2 inch from point to point, placed center l•l/2 inches above the point of blue trimming on left blouse sleeve.

Additional service will be indicated as outliaed above� until ten years service has been attained, whereupon the bars will be removed and another star added and so on. stars will be centered and placed horizontally 1/2 inch apart.

Service insignia for Chief Patrol Inspectors and higher grades to be of gold.

Service insignia for Senior Patrol Inspectors and lower grades to be of silver.

Service insignia will reprosent actual service only in

the Border Patrol.

BELT: -

Sam Bro\'m belt must al so be worn with uniform shirt whon no blouse is worn. Horeaft('Jr, cross-strap will be vt0rn over tho left shoulder.

SHIRTS:

Uniform:

To bo of a color approximating as nearly as possible that of the uniform and a weight suit able to climatic conditions. Collars to bo stiffened by stitching when desirable to insure a smart appearanco. Shoulder straps of si:.me material, with on0 button at tho point of strap at tho collar lino, the entire strap to oxtond from the collar lino to the s+eovo seam. Thora will bo no cuff facings on the shirt.

Dress:

Strictly plain white with white collars and worn with p lain black four-in-hand tie. !'he dress shirt may be worn by officers detailed to office or barracks, upon social occasions and when off duty, but never without the uniform blouso. Dress shirts will have no st raps, ornaments, or insignia.

UNIFOHM BLOUSE:

Hereafter, uniform blouse will be made fonn fitting at the waist to accommodate Sam Brown be] t.

When ServiM hats are worn they will be of the so-called Stet son type, but not necessarily of the Stet son make, approximating

as nearly as ,possible the shade of the uniform, with medium crown indented to a peak with flat stiff rim; crown und rim of dimensions proport ionrid to the size of the wearer. Cap insignia will not be worn on hat.

Hat band:

Plein, one inch wide, of lAather corresponding in color to the belt, fastened by means of metal buckle on the left side of the wearer-gilt or oxidized silver, as may be noces-sary to harmonize in color with other uniform details.

FUR CAP:

.May be worn when climatic conditions warrant and must be of uniform style within tho district.

Rank and service stripes and stars, as well as be.dges, collar and shoulder ornsments will be furnished by the bureau upon r9ceipt of request definitely an•:i specifically indicating what is desired. It is import ant that shoulder ornaments for shirts shall bs clearly designated as such, and that ·shoulder ornaments for blouse sfiall be likewise clearly a::id specifically indicated, since tho type of fastening will be different one from the other. Present needs will be supplied upon request, and hereafter such equipment should be ordered by special letter as needed.

The specifications for overcoats for border patrol

officers are hereby amended as follows:

"The back belt to be one piece, same width as specified at pres.ent. This belt to be let in the seams, without buttons and the side pockets to be fitted uith a slit to run parallel with flap of pocket and between flap and top of pocket to permit reaching revolver when worn beneath overcoats this slit to be tound Tiith tailor's tape; also two tabs o n the insic.�e of the coat fitted with buttons to fast en inside op'3ning."

SUBJECT: Uniform regulations-Border Patrol •

. In lieu of the uniform cap prescribed by exist­ing regulations, there is hereby authorized as optional for wear during hot weather, a cap (otherwise conforming to exioting specifications) with a band of open weave straw or cane of the same color as the blue band on the present uniform cap.

A cor� or pith helmet (forestry green) is hereby authorized as optional with the wearer in districts N os. lC� 17� 22, 25, and 31 when weather conditions render it suitable in the discretion of the dist�ict officer in charge. No insignia will be worn on the helmet.
