Providing financial solutions that enhance agriculture and rural America. FFC Mission Statement

Frontier Farm CreditBaldwin City, Manhattan, Marysville and Parsons, KansasTe Clark Enerson Partners

Located in rural settings, these buildings demanded an agriculturalfair. Tis precedent provides me with background inormationregarding Frontier Farm Credits preerences. Te naturalisticlandscape refect the history o armsteads and limestone barns.

Te entry to the Kansas State University Gardens is breathtaking. Tisis a prime example o how to stage an entry, rom the paving patternoutside the gate to the ormal arrangement ronting the barn. Tevase orm o the White Ash out ront provides an enormous canopyor activity below.

Winning a 2009 ASLA Honor Award, the Teater Group Retreatin Maine is a great example o using planting to screen elementswhile creating a visually dynamic orest. Red pine and bluespruce species contrast in texture, color, growth habit and growthrate, and thickness create privacy or cabins while providinginterest.

website exempliying the rustic, agricultural connectionthey preer. FFC is interested in revealing the history o

    the site in their designs.

Responding to the grid othe building, a bosque o48 specimen allee lacebarkelms rise rom a plane odecomposed granite andprovides an organizationalramework that humanizesthe scale o the space.(ASLA 2010) Tis examplewas chosen or the spacingo the elms and the canopyalready created with theseyoung elms. Te articledoesnt note the spacing, but Im guessing around20-25 eet.

Immediately the texture o the oreground grasses are apparent. Tey areswaying in the wind and as the eye progresses toward the background thelayers o golden yellows is remarkably similar to existing Frontier FarmCredit site. Te long shadows created by the trees are also quite dramatic.Grasses change throughout the year adding seasonal interest. Here, theyare pictured in the autumn.

Te power o an isolated tree amongst the tallgrass is surrealprovoking thoughts o strength, ortitude, and endurance throughouttime. I believe these virtues are embodied by Frontier Farm Credit, and a tree with an isolated placement can be the symbol FFC islooking or.

Tis photo is a precedent because it shows the variety o materials andvegetation present amongst a walking path. Te woody plants provide shadeand seclusion creating a comorting atmosphere. Te stone paths with grassesgrowing up is not only permeable, but is an added connection with nature.

A 2009 ASLA Honor Award Winner, the Biodesign Institute atArizona State University is a prime o planting to acilitate publicgathering spaces. East pedestrian plaza with Palo Brea alleeorming a tunnel o shade. I also look to this example on how toplant to create layers o vegetation rom groundlevel to overhead.
