went to war over Texas because of Manifest Destiny

• As a result the U.S. gained a large amount of land (present day California and Texas)

• This allowed the U.S. to expand and grow

Spoil system- replace high

ranking officials with

friends in government

Kill the National bank..

• Withdrawing money from any bank will force it to close. That is what Jackson wanted to do to the National Bank because he thought it gave the government too much power. So he put all the money into state owned banks (a.k.a. Pet banks)
