Leading Australian fencing machinery manufacturer, Munro Engineers, is celebrating 50 years of manufacturing its revolutionary post hole driver.

Launched world-wide in 1964 Munro Engineers’ post hole driver was the first to combine a fast drilling auger with a powerful post driver, and won the prestigious invention award at the Australian National Field Days. In the five decades since, the Victorian company has sold thousands of its revolutionary post hole drivers in Australia and across the world.

Company owner Warren McLean says the original Munro post hole driver was manufactured after a bet between two farmers about who could make the best post hole driver.

Until then, the company established in the 1800s by George Munro, manufactured and supplied a range of engineering products including wool presses, tobacco presses, chaff cutters, bag elevators and shearing handpieces. But the popularity of the new post hole driver revolutionised fencing and prompted Munro Engineers to specialise in fencing products.

Today, the Ballarat factory employs about 20 people, with McLean family patriarch, Max, 82, still very much a part of the business.

Munro Engineers has used its innovation to become a world leader in the design and manufacture of fencing machines, from combining the first digger and driver to the advanced design AutoDriver.

Its suite of fencing products includes the Munro AutoDriver, which combines a fast-action rock breaker-style hammer and an hydraulic auger for drilling pilot holes, and the Munro Multi-Sett, an all-weather system that combines a fast action earth auger for drilling a pilot hole with a powerful post driver for setting a tight post every time.

Linhai Motors has announced its intention to manufacture a crush protection device (CPD) mount point in part of its plans for safer quads as a standard feature on the 400cc and 500cc vehicles.

The universal CPD mount is designed to make the fitting of a CPD inexpensive to the Linhai quads.

Ken Higgins, director of Down Under Dirt Bike Sales — the Australian distributor for Linhai Motors says these two model Linhai quads will be fitted standard with a Quad Bar from QB Industries.

The 400cc and 500cc quads from Linhai that will have the CPD’s standard fall in line with its commitment to improve on-farm safety and the recently released Perkins powered utility terrain vehicle (UTV).

The diesel-powered UTV features a lower safer working speed, certified rollover protection structure and fully independent front and rear adjustable suspension for improved handling.
