Welcome to the Summer issue of the Forest Education Network (FEN) Members' Bulletin. You will find news from our partners, signposting to resources and articles as well as information about upcoming events. The FEN Members' Bulletin is sent to you 3 times a year, and you can stay in touch with forest education news between bulletins by visiting our web pages at www.lotc.org.uk/fen/. FEN Update Save the date! Following the success of FEN's first national CPD event in 2017, ‘Putting the Forestry into Forest Education’, FEN are excited to announce the date for a second CPD event which will be held at Rosliston Forestry Centre, South Derbyshire, DE12 8JX on Thursday 4th April 2019. The FEN Steering Group are now working on putting together the programme for the day, designed to expand educators’ knowledge of the ecology and management of the UK’s forests and woodlands and support practitioners to manage their own sites. Participants can expect a day of practical and inspirational workshops led by forestry and education experts, held in the heart of the National Forest. The full programme will be announced during the autumn term and you will be able to book your place then. In the meantime – watch this space for updates! Preferences

Save the date!

Following the success of FEN's first national CPD event in 2017, ‘Putting the Forestry intoForest Education’, FEN are excited to announce the date for a second CPD event whichwill be held at Rosliston Forestry Centre, South Derbyshire, DE12 8JX on Thursday 4thApril 2019.

First two years of Polli:Nation Survey revealed

The interim results of the first two years of Polli:Nation survey have been published byOpal, revealing that work done to improve habitats has increased the number of insectscounted.

Forest Schools for All

Forest Schools for All is a bold new education project for Sylva Foundation, in partnershipwith the Forest School Association, and The Ernest Cook Trust. The three leadingenvironmental education organisations have come together with the ultimate aim ofincreasing and sustaining access to Forest Schools for all children in the UK.

Agroforestry in England: Seven recommendations for the UK government

The Royal Forestry Society is among organisations supporting seven recommendationscontained in a new report launched today, Agroforestry in England: Benefits, Barriers &Opportunities. The report has been produced by the Soil Association and Woodland Trust inpartnership with 11 other organisations.

Theme and speakers announced for the CLOtC Conference 2018

The theme of Maximising value from LOtC has been launched for the CLOtC Conferencelater this year. The conference will focus on keeping the costs of learning outside theclassroom to a minimum and making best use of resources.

CLOtC are delighted to announce the first two inspiring keynote speakers this year will beMatt Hyde, Chief Executive of Scouts and Paul Whiteman, NAHT General Secretary(National Association of Head Teachers).

CLOtC’s annual conference will take place at the Black Country Living Museum onThursday 22nd November 2018.

CLOtC welcome Interim Head

The Council for Learning Outside the Classroom have welcomed Kim Somerville as theInterim Head of CLOtC.

Kim started in post on 10th May 2018 after CLOtC’s current chief executive Elaine Skatesmoved on to become the Head of Learning and Skills with the Heart of England Forest.

Kim brings to the role over 15 years in senior leadership experience, working in the field ofeducation and passionately championing the benefits of educational opportunities for all.

Forest Research have recently produced two new reports detailing findings of researchevaluating a community inclusion programme and visitor experiences of the new welcomeand information offer at Westonbirt Arboretum.

New version of myForest software launched

The Sylva Foundation have launched a new version of their myForest software. TheWoodland Manager suite of tools in myForest provides easy to use tools for woodlandmapping and management.
