Virginia woolf novel To The Lighthouse is a piece of litreature which belongs to literary genere of modernism. lilly is a brilliant example of modernism.

Thought the history women have been locked in a struggle to free themselves from the boundries that seprates themselves from man.

As well as to explore such a feminist issues as the necssity.or even desirability, of marraige for women and difficulties for women in pursuing a career in arts.

Feminism in To The Lighthouse

Showlater has divided the proof of evaluation in three stages.they are

1)The feminine >1840-1880during that period women wrote in an effort to equal the intellectual achievements of the male culture.

2)The feminist >1880-1990women won the right to vote. Women writer began to use litreature to dramatize the ordeals of wrong womenhood.

3) The female stages > ongoing since 1920 .Women rejecting both limitation and protest.

Women show more indepedent attitudes.

Women began to concentrate on the forms and techniques of arts and litreature.

Character of Mrs. Ramsay and lily briscoe.both giving different polar areas of the women in the novel. they are portrayed with stream of conciousness technique.

Character of Mrs. RamsayMrs. Ramsey is the central character .she is portrayedin image of flertility and softness

Mrs. Ramsay is the idealize women type according to victorian values.

Mrs. Ramsay is the character who constantly present not only as wordly pesence but also in the mind of the other character.

Her constant concern about small and basic needs of family keeps her alive after her death too.

In The window Mrs.ramsay never compromises herself . Here she is able masterfully to satisfy her husband's desire for her to tell him .she loves him without saying words.she finds so dificult to say. This scene displays Mrs. Ramsay's ability to bring to gether disparate things into whole.

Character of Lilly Briscoe

Chracter of Lilly BriscoeLily is partly as anew women.

Lily as a role model for women. She defies the patriarchy society.

Lily ignores the patriarchal rules and the aims to take her social role with her to becoming an artist.

Lily is srugglling female character.

She represents an idealized feminist woman who challanges male hegemony to achieve a sense of individuality.

Her finished painting and epiphany at the end of the novel serves to establish her role as a trulley liberated female artist.Conclusion: The desire to break away from conventional female cultural norms and stereotypes in order to achieve autonomy can only be fully realized when she experience the vision after the complrtition of her painting at the end of the novel.
