Inmarsat-C I-4 Satellite Migration

Due to changes in the available satellites, caused by the end of I-3 satellite life-spans, current coverage regions have been, or will be changed to the new I-4 satellite coverage regions. This document outlays the coverage changes and the stages at which the changes that will occur, or have occurred.

The following table shows the migration schedule from I-3 to the I-4 satellites. The migration process for each area will begin during 2018. For the details on the new coverage areas, see the reverse page.

► The terminals in use can be used continuously.► You can send and receive messages as before.► Satellite coverage will change according to the new satellites and their coverage. Affected regions and their changes

are outlined on the reverse page.► The alert “Synchronization Loss” may occur immediately after the satellite migration. See the details on the reverse

page.► After the satellite migration, the support information etc. for Inmarsat users will use the new satellite region name.► The schedule for the satellite migration is subject to change. See the following web site for the details.

For FELCOM15/18 When the following alert statuses occur, the menu should be set manually (F7

[Options]→[Ocean Region]→[Auto] or own ship area) • The “Synchronization loss” status • The “UNSYNC” status when satellite migration to I-4 causes loss of satellite

synchronization.Note 1: If the distress alert is transmitted during [UNSYNC] status, the satellite is

searched for automatically and the alert is transmitted normally.Note 2: For FELCOM16/19, the satellite is searched for automatically so the manual search is not required.

In the area out of the satellite coverage, select [West-Atlantic] at the [Ocean Region] menu.
