Introducing – March is Nutrition Month

Every year in March, Dietitians of Canada organizes Nutrition Month to

provide information and guidance to Canadians, aimed at making it a

little easier for them to choose, eat and enjoy healthy food.

Nutrition Month 2018 campaign is dedicated to helping Canadians

Unlock the Potential of Food. Dietitians help Canadians realize the

potential of food to fuel, discover, prevent, heal and bring us together.

The 2018 Nutrition Month campaign will help Canadians discover the

potential of food to enhance lives, improve health, inspire children, fuel

activities and bring people together.

Food is nourishment, but it’s so much more. Food unites us at the

dinner table and is the centre of holidays. Food is something you can

teach to children to help brighten their future. Food can improve

health, prevent disease and keep us well for longer. At every

touchpoint, food nourishes and inspires us. This is why dietitians love

food and believe in its power to enhance lives and improve health.

Visit the 2018 Nutrition Month campaign and explore the five topics

that show you the potential of food:

· Potential to fuel: Stay energized by planning nutritious snacks into your day.

· Potential to discover: Foster healthy eating habits in children by teaching them to shop and cook.

· Potential to prevent: Understand how food can help prevent chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart

disease.

· Potential to heal: Learn how food can promote healing and how dietitians work in health care teams to make

a difference.

· Potential to bring us together: Enjoy the benefits of bringing families and friends together with food

CCN In The News: Want To Make New Friends This Year?

Community Care Northumberland (CCN) organizes a social group for men in Campbellford. This is a causal coffee

group designed to bring senior men together for conversation and fellowship. Occasionally guest speakers or

special trips are organized.

When current members were asked what it is they enjoy about this group, the main reason was just a chance to

talk to others. Client quotes include:

“I like to keep busy and coming to the Men’s group is something different and gives me an opportunity

to hear other opinions and have a good laugh.”

“I live alone and this gives me a chance to get out and talk to others.”

“It’s a nice group of fellas, we always have a good laugh and the coffee and cookies are always a treat.”

(L-R) Doug Free – Age 88, Perly Terry – Age 90, Doug Hagerman – Age 86

Did you know being physically active reduces stress, strengthens the heart and

lungs and increases your energy levels?

We are offering free exercise classes for seniors in the Community Room of

Victoria Manor in Hastings. These classes are led by Lori (pictured right) and

run every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:00 am.

I recently attended a Thursday class and a participant told me that she loved

how Lori switched things up for them. “Lori keeps it challenging for us, on

Tuesdays we do stretching, chair yoga type exercises and today (Thursdays) we

do more fitness using weights and resistance bands. It helps get my heart rate

up and I always feel great at the end.”

Remember, these classes are free

for seniors. To register, please

contact our Hastings Office: (705)

696-3891.
