February Ra l l y 2017N e w s l e t t e r

Hello Members,

The start of 2017 is already building up to be action packed so please put the dates in your diary. We are having our Horse Trials early again on the 19th February for a huge fundraising finale to enable the building of the club house. Congratulations to the club house reps who in December secured a huge grant from Bendigo Bank so please support the Gisborne Branch of the Bendigo Bank when you think about your banking and thank them when you go in!

This rally we have guest instructors to kick the year off to a good start and prepare for our own horse trials 2 weeks later including Jamie Murray for Showjumping, James Lang for Cross Country and Jodi for Long Reining (a training step for harness horses). Juniors have Horse Trials and Dressage Test Competition prep with Rebecca, handy mount with Sam and Teagan and Certificate work with Maureen.

The Saturday is also busy with extra showjumping lessons with Jamie Murray available, Dressage Squad training with Kylie Calderwood and whipper snippering of the Cross Country course!!! So bring along your horses and equipment Saturday to ensure our grounds are ready for the major event of the year!!

December Rally – Gisbathon! (modified Tetrathlon)

The Gisbathon was run at the December rally which included all four phases of a real Pony Club Tetrathlon where possible. We did a swim at the local Gisborne South Pool, the hickstead course, a cross country run (on foot) and ran a shooting phase with nerf guns which was especially enjoyed by the kids!! The under 10’s did Bending instead of swimming and although the scores were rather complicated to sort out with the various age groups and courses we had some worthy winners of the Gisbathon trophies at the end of the day! Well done to all participants and maybe we will see some riders out at the Victorian State Championships for Tetrathlon this year!

The twilight Christmas Party BBQ dinner with kids face painting, entertainment, fairy floss and ofcourse Santa was enjoyed by all who attended and the kids vs Dads tug of war was hotly contested to finally see the kids win!!

Holiday Clinic Yona and Nina Lloyd January 2017

Yona and Nina Lloyd taught many riders at our clinic in the holidays. While this was run at cost for our riders we also managed to make a profit for the club. The open riders appreciated coming to our grounds and had a great clinic so it was a success all round.

Dressage State Final try outs – 12th February 2017

The Central Zone Dressage and Show Jumping qualifiers will be held at Riddells Creek Pony Club to decide who represents Central Zone at the PCAV State Championships in March 2017.

We have several riders training in dressage. All dressage graded can enter the Championships because this year a Grade 4 and 5 is being offered. Entries have been extended until the night of the rally so all graded riders are encouraged to enter and if you are grades 1,2 or 3 you will have a chance to qualify for the State Finals.

GPC Horse Trials - Sunday 19th February 2017

The Horse Trials have been scheduled for February to take advantage of the nice weather and get the funds finalised for the club house and year’s worth of rallies. If we do this fund raising event early we know what is left to raise for the rallies and what is needed to go into the club house grand plan.

The program is on www.eventsecretary.com.au and entries close 10th February. Many grades are already full so make sure you enter immediately to secure your place!!

The event organizer is James Lang and he will be building the course. All riders can be involved in the design and set up of the cross country and show jump courses on the day and K Certificate riders have their books signed off. Even if you aren’t registered for your K Certificate it is a great learning experience.

Remember to list who the adult helper on the day is although as a member of the club we will give you early notice of how you can help. Those who put their hands up early to help can choose what they want to do. We will be planning the roster at the rally so you will be asked how you can help both in preparation and on the day.

Working Bees are being held on the Saturday 4th February before the rally and the Saturday 18th to set up – please attend for as long as you can, there will be plenty to do and a variety of jobs for everyone to contribute to.

CZ Showing Clinic – Saturday 25th February - Melton Pony Club

The showing clinic is being offered in late February to help riders prepare for the gymkhana. Melton PC have generously offered to be hosts.

Riders will learn about how to present their horse and gear. The mounted sessions will focus on riding in the show ring, both on the circle and doing a workout.
