“Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”
Ma hew 24:12‐13 February is the month we celebrate St. Valen ne’s day and o en think about the word LOVE. Everyone loves, love, right? Love is the emo‐on that takes our breath away and mo vates us to go beyond comfort to
sacrifice. The worst thing that can happen in our lives is for our love to grow cold, as Jesus put it in Ma hew 24. Why does love grow cold? According to Jesus, it is the increase of wickedness, which literally is grow‐ing distant from God. The Apostle John says that love comes from God because God is love. So it is understandable that as humans distance themselves from God, our love grows cold. Jesus has given us His Word and insight into how we can keep our “love pressure” in good shape. Just like we need good blood pressure to be healthy, so we also need good “love pressure” to be healthy spiritually. So, how can we keep our love strong?
— 2 —
First of all, we need to stay close to Jesus and the message of grace and mercy. Faith is a journey with the Lord, not a moment in me. Jesus said, “Abide in me and let my word abide in you and you will bear much fruit, but apart from me you can do nothing.” Worship, study of God’s Word, fellowship with other believers and staying close to Jesus through prayer are prac ces that can keep our “love pressure” strong. Secondly, guard your heart, for it is the well spring of life (Proverbs 4:23). There is no doubt that the increase of hate, discord, bi erness and un‐forgiveness is increasing. When we focus on our differ‐ences, we forget the love of Christ. We don’t have to agree with everyone, but we are all called to love everyone. Are there roots of bi erness in your heart? Are there areas of un‐forgiveness that bind you up? We can only forgive with the power of Christ and, as we yield these up to the Lord, we find our hearts can heal. Third, keep the message of Christ first and foremost in your mind. We love because He first loved us. Indeed, Jesus is our Valen ne in the most profound way. I have shared the picture below before, but it’s worth sharing again. God so love you that He gave His Son that if you believe in Him you will not perish, but have everlas ng life! Now that’s a love worth celebra ng! May our love for each other and for the world be manifest in all we do! I love being your pastor! Love,
Pastor Mark

“Are you in?” It’s a ques on we all answer over and over again. When there’s a party, when our coach says it’s me for tryouts, when we’re offered a summer job, when our friends go to the movies, or when some‐one invites us to church, we all have the chance to decide if we’re “in” or “out” for that par cular ac vity. Some mes the answer is an easy, “Count me in!” Other mes it’s tougher. There are good reasons on both sides. Some of Jesus’ friends were faced with the same decision of whether they were “in” or “out.” They had good reasons to join the Jesus movement, but they also had some pre y compelling reasons to step out — things like doubt, guilt, pride, and the fear of what they might miss. As we get to know these some mes famous and devoted followers, we’ll talk about the deci‐sion they faced, why they could have walked away, and what led them to say, “I’m in.”
Are you in? Join us Wednesday Night!
