President's ReportHello Everyone,
I sure hope your year has gotten off to a good start. I'm working with the federation on several projects that I think will help things go smoothly for all our members.
I'm very happy about the first SFMS regional rock swap planned for May 17-19.We've been working up to this for a couple of years now and it is now ready to happen at “The Spirit of the Suwannee music Park” in Live Oak, FL.
(https://www.musicliveshere.com/) Go to their site to reserve cabins or camping space for the event. Our second business meeting for the year will be included. We're hoping that this will be a chance to recreate the fellowship of the early daysof rockhounding and give folks a good reason to attend the business meeting. Ourfirst VP Jesse Griffin is helping Jerri Heer and others coordinate this and I'm sure they would welcome your help with planning and execution.
Another project under way is a by-laws update. Travis Paris from the Knoxville club is working on this. We're trying to incorporate recent changes and additions into the version posted on our website. Any one who has collected minutes from meetings of years past may be able to help him with documentation.
My other main work in progress is the improvement of communication of clubswith the federation and with each other through our network of State directors. Unfortunately, this very important aspect of our operation has been neglected in some cases. Ideally all our members should be in regular contact with their director to make sure they are getting full benefit from their federation membership. If you don't see this happening then please contact 2nd VP Melissa Hill or myself to seek improvement. I will be working with the directors to help them with this work, particularly by providing a presentation that elaborates federation membership benefits. I welcome any relevant suggestions you may have for this.
And oh, by the way, don't forget to have fun with rocks!

Secretary's Report
First Annual SFMS Rockhound Roundup
Your leaders of the Southeast Federation have been tossing the idea for a Rock Swap around for several years now. Apparently, we’d held them regularly back in the 1970-80’s. With the help of our 2018 President, Craig Hamilton and Membership Chair Jason Hamilton, we’ve come up with a location to revive the tradition. Although still in the detail planning stages, at the time of this publication, we are starting to nail down the specifics.
The location is the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, located in North Florida near Live Oak. There is plenty of space for a three-day event currently scheduled
for May 17-19, 2109. There are cabins, RV sites and tent camping sites available for participants, as well as several hotels and motels nearby.
The Rockhound Roundup itself will be held on a large grass field which should accommodate at least fifty spaces. Each vendor will be asked to pay $10 for the weekend, to cover set-up costs, advertising, etc. We have plenty more to decide, but that should give those interested some rough idea.
Our hope is that if we are successful, we’ll make this event a new annual tradition. We will also hold our summer SFMS Executive Meetings during the event. So save the dates, and keep a lookout for more info to come!
