• Steve Figurelli & our “Founding Families”
➢ The need for higher competition
• 2006-15 years of travel softball experience
• From no field to the Landing Complex
• Hundreds of softball players have worn
the Rebels uniform
Our focus is obviously softball, but also to develop our athletes into lifelong learners that can see the importance of having fun, commitment, teamwork and dedication.
5
• Higher level of competition
• Longer season(s)
• Higher performance expectations & focus
on player development
• Preparation for playing at the “next” level
• The perfect example, “2006 10U & 12U
Rebels”
• Approach and Philosophy
− Stress fundamentals 8U – 14U
− Practices high energy and fun
− Focus is on helping players to develop
softball and social skills (building
self-confidence; forming relationships and
friendships; supporting self and one another)
• Selection: coaches are selected by the Board
• Training: hold training sessions for coaches to
ensure consistency in approach, philosophy and
skill building techniques
• Requirements: Concussion and CPR Training (new
in 2020)6
Expectations of Coaches
− Will not discuss other players in our program with other
parents or players.
− Will communicate the following:
➢ Coaching approach and philosophy
➢ Expectations he/she has for the players on the team
➢ Locations and times of all practices and games
➢ Any concerns related to players’ demonstrated commitment, effort
and/or behaviors
➢ Individual feedback on your daughter’s strengths and opportunities for
improvement with ideas of how to continually develop
− Will treat all players with respect and not use offensive or
abusive language when addressing the players
− Will always put the safety of the players first

Expectations of Parents
− Be positive with your daughter. Let her know that it is a proud
accomplishment simply to be part of an athletic team.
− Try not to offer excuses if she is not playing. Encourage her to work hard and
try her best. Help her set goals as a good way to show your interest and
monitor progress.
− Discourage putting down coaches or others which teaches your child to be a
complainer, not a doer.
− Do not instruct your daughter during play.
− Be a positive role model – show respect for opposing players, coaches and
spectators, and demonstrate good sportsmanship. You represent your family,
team and community.
Parent Liaison
− Objective and unbiased resource available for parents to express concerns.
− Is NOT a substitute for healthy dialogue between players, coaches and
parents; parents should always start with speaking with the coach first.
