Passing of the Peace

Leader: The peace of the Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Response: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy

Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world

without end. Amen, Amen.

WE PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD

Anthem “Gloria” Jim Stanton

Grace Chancel Choir

Children come forward during the anthem.

Leader: This is the good news in Jesus Christ!

People: God loves us more than we love ourselves. God forgives

us, encourages, us, and frees us to love others.

All: Thanks be to God.

Song of Praise “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise”

Prayer of Confession

We see, O God, but we do not see; often, in the tossing and the tur-

moil of daily life, we miss your hand. We see busy-ness and build-

ings and billboards and we fail to give thanks for creation’s beauty.

We see meetings and schedules and commitments but fail sometimes

to see the people with whom we meet, their hearts, hurts, and needs.

We see offenses and miss seeing chances for reconciliation. We see

“our side of things” but cannot see our neighbor’s side. And in those

who irritate, tire, or trouble us, we see everything except your im-

age. In short, O God, we see the world through our eyes, not

through yours, and we respond accordingly. Forgive us for our sin

and shortsightedness. Heal our blindness and redeem our broken-

ness, so that we may see and serve you in all things. In Christ’s

name we pray, Amen.

Song of Supplication “Change My Heart, O God”

The flowers in the sanctuary have been

given by the PNC in honor and celebration

of Pastor Ben Trawick’s first Sunday in

the pulpit at Grace.

FOLLOWING THE SERVICE TODAY IN WESTER HALL…

Two years ago, you may have wondered how long it would be before we had a pastor in place at Grace. You may have imagined the golden-throated orator who could comfort, inspire, teach, remember every anniversary and every pet’s name, and could knock out a sermon on Saturday afternoon.

Time will tell whether all the ideals have been met, but for today…

Come to Wester Hall after the Service, Enjoy a reception and welcoming luncheon, and get to know

Pastor Ben Trawick, your new pastor and a really good human being.

MEN’S CHORUS SINGS NEXT SUNDAY

Husbands, brothers, sons, uncles, fathers, and friends meet at 10:00 a.m. in the choir room to practice for the 10:30 service. All men are invited and encouraged to participate. Juice, donuts, and fellowship will be available. Contact Bob Rawlins, 703-451-6825, or Mike Phillips, 703-642-6533, for more information.

Interfaith Musical Event for Peace and Harmony

Cantor Hinda Eisen Labovitz, Iranian musician Rana Shieh, as well as classical and jazz pianist Dave Anderson will be among the performers. Light refreshments will be served. The program begins at 7 p.m.

Dear Grace Friends,

“I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that has been given you in Christ Jesus…” (1 Corinthians 1:4)

I will never forget the glorious send-off you gave me on my last Sunday at Grace. Your words of appreciation, your incredibly generous and thoughtful gifts, and the many hugs and good wishes I received were a blessing beyond anything I could have imagined. I have already started transferring files from my clunky old laptop to the new one, and Deepak and I are looking forward with great anticipation to relaxing at The Homestead this spring, where we will undoubtedly raise a toast in your honor!

Thank you most of all for being my co-workers in ministry these past few years and sharing your faith, hope and love with me. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve God with you at Grace and in the Springfield community.

Love and Blessings, Lisa

VOICES FROM THE HOLY LAND FILM #2 TODAY - 2:30 PM

National Cathedral’s Perry Auditorium Free Admission and Parking

“WHERE SHOULD THE BIRDS FLY?”

The Grace bus will leave the North Parking Lot at 1:30 p.m.

If you wish to ride the bus and have not signed up, see Kathy Drinkard.

Last week Two Blue Lines was shown to an overflow crowd of 250 people.

This week’s film, Where Should the Birds Fly?, is the first film about Gaza made by Palestinians. Videographer Fida Qishta, who has lived the reality of Israel’s siege and blockade, documents the lives of two Palestinian women, herself and Mona Samouni, now 12, both survivors of Israel's Operation Cast Lead in 2008-09. The film reveals the strength and hope, the humanity and humor that flourish among the people of Gaza, and the impact of modern warfare and sanctions on a civilian population.

Next Sunday, March 5th, features The Occupation of the American Mind: Israel’s Public Relations War in the United States. Israel’s ongoing military occupation of Palestinian territory and its repeated invasions of the Gaza strip have triggered a fierce backlash against Israeli policies virtually everywhere in the world–except the United States. This film takes a look at this critical exception, zero-ing in on pro-Israel public relations efforts within the US. The film explores how Tel Aviv, Washington, and the pro-Israeli lobby have joined forces, often with very different motives, to shape American media coverage of the conflict in Israel’s favor.

Please remain in the sanctuary following the postlude to see the trailer of this eye-opening film.

For more information about the series, visit ww.voicesfromtheholyland.org.

To ride the Grace bus, please add your name to the signup sheet at the Information Station, or contact Kathy Drinkard at 703 971-4259 or [email protected].
