FEBRUARY 2018 Dear Wolf Pack Nation, Second Semester has begun!! It is an opportunity to start fresh and continue to learn and grow. Our Winter Sports season is ending and we have seen positive results in our competitions from the rifle team, girls bowling, wrestling, and girls and boys basketball. Many teams have made it to the post season and we are excited about the possibilities of having the opportunity to continue playing and showing the state what great teams we have here at BHHS. Congratulations to the band and orchestra students who performed at Solo and Ensemble. BHHS had 19 entries in the competition and 15 of those received the highest score possible. A special congratulations to Andy Phan who qualified for State in Piano. Senior Exit interviews are coming up on March 28 and 29. This is a district requirement that all seniors must complete in-order to graduate. It is a great opportunity for our seniors to shine. Every year I get feedback from community members about what outstanding students we have here at BHHS. If you are interested in assisting in this process, please get in touch with Susan Jones in our Career Center at 360-709-7825. We have a great booster club and it is never too late to join them. Our booster club is an active organization that has assisted our students on numerous occasions and does so many great things for our school that I cannot list them all. We owe a great deal to the booster club and all they do for our students. Their next meeting is Wednesday, February 14th, at 6:30 in the staff lounge. The annual Booster Bash Dinner and Auction is Saturday, May 5th, from 6:00 – 9:00. This is a great opportunity to support Black Hills High School and it is also a fun event, I hope to see you there. The Administrative Team here at Black Hills would like to say THANK YOU! Thank you for your support, thank you for sending us your children, as they truly are amazing; thank you for being involved in your childs life, thank you for your feedback – it does help us improve in our jobs and lastly thank you for reading this letter! ASB LEADERSHIP NEWS

Monthly Rewards

In our leadership committee, student recognition, one of our main projects over these past couple

months, have been incentives focused on rewarding kids who have a 3.0 or higher GPA, have had perfect

attendance last year, or gave blood at our last blood drive. During both lunches, once a month we give a

treat to the students who have an incentive card that we had previously made in the year for the

students with good GPAs, perfect attendance, and students that gave blood. These students, can come

up to our table that we set up. They show us their cards, we then give them the incentive of the month,

for October we gave out candy, November we gave out slices of pumpkin pie, for December, we gave out

hot cider, and January, we gave donut holes. Knowing that you will receive a reward for your good

grades, students are more willing to try harder to do their best in order to receive an incentive, and by

doing all of this, our committee is recognizing kids who strive to do good in school.

To make sure the word gets out, every month our committee puts together a video that is around two

minutes long, we play this video for about a week everyday leading up to the incentive day on our

student news. This gives the students a chance to see and hear about what this month's incentives will

be so that they can hopefully come during lunch and receive their incentive. Hear is a couple of examples

of what a video we made might look like:

Little Wolves Pack the Den!

K-12 Committee has been working hard to reach out to the elementary and middle schools on the Black

Hills half of the school district. These schools include Black Lake Elementary, Michael T. Simmons

Elementary, Tumwater Hill Elementary, and Tumwater Middle School. During the Boys Varsity Basketball

game on Friday, January 19th, K-12 Committee had the chance to host and Elementary Night. The three

elementary schools in the area invited all their students to attend this basketball game.

These students were able to get into the game with free admission and were invited to join the high

school students in tie-dye and neon dress. There was also an elementary school student section next to

the high school student section where silly string, rally towels, bubbles, and wrist bands were thrown into

the crowd. Many kids loved seeing the BHHS mascot, Rufio, at the game and were excited to have a

special night just for them to “Pack the Den” as the future members of the Wolf Pack!

“The Tumwater School District does not discriminate in any programs or activities on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, veteran or military status, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, disability or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal, and provides equal access to the Boys Scouts and other designated youth groups. The following positions have been designated to handle questions and complaints of alleged discrimination: Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance Coordinator, Exec. Dir. Of Student Learning, 360-709-7030, 621 Linwood Ave SW, Tumwater, WA 98501 Section 504/ADA Coordinator – Special Services Supervisor, 360-709-7040, 621 Linwood Ave SW, Tumwater, WA 98512”
